Well I'm visiting England for the week and figured I would take a day to ride the train over to Paris and back. Leaves London at 5:30 AM and leaves Paris to come back at 8:30 PM the same day. I just want to visit Notre Dame at least once in my life.

Notre Dame is DEFINITELY worth the trip. Hopefully, it's still standing by the time you get there......

If you make it to Notre Dame, you might try the climb up the stairs into the bell tower area. Gets you up close to gargoyles. Be sure to see the garden at the rear of Notre Dame -- there are often nice flowers in that area and you get a view of the flying buttresses. And you can get some very good French ice cream on Ile St. Louis just across the bridge from that garden.

Also, you should consider another attraction a block or so downstream from Notre Dame but on the same island as Notre Dame -- the Sainte Chapelle, one of the most gorgeous buildings in the world. Walls of stained glass. It was originally built to house the Crown of Thorns, a replica of which is on the steeple of the Sainte Chapelle.

I found the Washington Cathedral and the Montreal cathedral both look like copies of notre dame and to me seemed even better than the original.
