The governor does not appoint our judges here, they are voted in by the voters. Connor was re-elected in 2004. My guess is that most of the populace here forgot all about those DUIs he had, or else they didn't think it would make a difference in his decisions on the bench. Big mistake. I believe that there are plenty of people (mostly Dems, I'm guessing) that are feeling pretty unhappy with themselves for casting a ballot for him instead of his opponent.

Some states do elect them, I didn't know Ohio did. If they are elected, they can be removed more easily than if they are appointed. Constitutions specifically state the processes for removing Judges, specifically for instances like this. Voters just need to push it.

As far as Dems, they are victimizers/enablers. They more than likely see this Judge as a victim, just as they do other social misfits. If they felt his record and his addiction didn't hinder his ability to serve on the bench, they made the mistake a lot of voters made in deciding the same thing, in regard to homosexual activists serving in public office. How wrong all that voted for them were!
