IED Components Moving Across Iraq-Iran Border, General Says
American Forces Press Service ^ | Gerry Gilmore

Posted on 03/17/2006 3:45:08 PM PST by SandRat

WASHINGTON, March 17, 2006 – U.S. officials are sure Iran is conducting intelligence operations in both Iraq and Afghanistan, the commander of U.S. Central Command told the Senate Armed Services Committee yesterday. "There's no doubt that there's Iranian intelligence activity throughout Iraq," Army Gen. John P. Abizaid said. "There's no doubt that there's Iranian intelligence activity in Afghanistan."

Abizaid said Iranian activity in Iraq and Afghanistan is particularly troubling because Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadi-Nejad "is very ideological (and) has made an awful lot of threats" against the United States, Israel, and Europe.

The general said improvised explosive device components manufactured in Iran have made their way into Iraq, but there's no provable connection that the Iranian government is directly providing bomb components to terrorists in Iraq.

"I can't tell you whether or not that happened with the orders of the Iranian government," Abizaid said in response to a senator's question. "But I can tell you that terrorists in northeastern Iraq used the Iranian northwestern border to move back and forth across the border."

Regarding possible Iranian government meddling in Iraq, Abizaid said: "We need to look very, very, clearly and effectively with our own intelligence networks to determine how this flow (of IEDs into Iraq) is moving and who has authorized it, if anybody."

An Iran-IED connection, if true, would constitute "a very serious concern," Abizaid said.

The general said improvised explosive device components manufactured in Iran...

Then planted by foreign insurgents. Language is losing its meaning.

Furthermore the Iranian manufacture roadside weapons are by some reports very high tech and render our thickest armor plate useless shooting a jet of plasma through, say, a heavy tank.

And US forces, at least some intel people, knew of the high tech roadside devices months ago.

Let's see, keep USA busy in Iraq and Afghanistan while they rush production of nukes. At the same time, do everything possible to keep price of oil high to pay for it like bombing oilfields, terminals, pipelines etc.

Iran is at war with the US. Pres Bush is a failed coward who is too afraid to face the Congress abd instead allowing our troops to be give their lives.

Soldiers are dying because Bush isa a coward. he is toast. he is over and has lost command.

In Vietnam Market Time and Gamewarden shut down the coastal and river logistics respectively. The NVA used the Ho Chi Minh trail not becuse they wanted to, but because it was the only way left. In a 1995 WSJ article Colonel Bui Tin of the NVA General Staff said they started a huge amount of supplies at the top of the trail in hopes of getting an adequate amount through. The Brown Water Navy I was part of then has been disbanded. In reading a couple articles in Naval Institute Proceedings, I get the impression the Navy would just as soon never see it revived, because they don't see it as a career enhancing path.

My point is we don't have the patrol resources to force the operation into arenas where it can be interdicted to cause enormous wastage, ineffective transport, and overt indications of source. Even if we could field the 35 year old technolgy, I see from the reunions that all of us who served with the PBRs and Swifts are just too old.

I've seen such claims often on moveon.org, although 'Bush lied' is one that is most prevalent.

Right.

Which is why we don't have time on our side. Once Iran gets nukes, either by purchasing or developing, they will be much harder to topple.

Then they will put an IED right outside the Green Zone.

Nuke 'em before they Nuke US.
