It is the height of arrogance and the depths of stupidity, to tell a newly minted United States Senator, whose vote you are going to need to pass important legislation, to 'quit whining' about an issue that is critical to his state and his people.
That attitude has not been unusual in this administration, unfortunately.
maybe Thune sould try getting an oil refinery or something up there.
And your taking the work of the New York Post about Thune vs. the WH admin?
Gimme a break.
Just a sec, there, pard.
The republican Congress spends five years spending like drunken sailors while Bush takes the heat for not reigning in federal spending (because the appropriation bills are veto-proof), and they have the gall to say they're "underappreciated"?
The very same Congress who screams about fiscal restraint can't seem to remember the concept until they're presented wiht a $200 billion bill to rebuild a democratic redoubt (New Orleans and Southern Louisiana), and then let's the President take all the grief over FEMA's ineffectiveness, holding hearings and grandstanding, when it was BY ACT OF THIS VERY SAME CONGRESS that FEMA was subordinated to the Department of Homeland (In-)Security, and Bush is supposed to be grateful? Why is it that fiscal responsibility only became a hot-button issue for most AFTER they realized they were writing a blank check for a democratic bastion?
The same republican congress which has screamed for decades that entitlement spending will bankrupt the country, folds on the subject of Social Security reform and practically salivates over handing the Baby Boomers and the remnants of the WWII generation (richest generation in American history, no less!) practically-free prescription drugs, and they're unfairly maligned? If they (The Republican Congress)could pass a veto-proof Highway Bill, they could certainly also torpedo anything the Bushmeister put on their plates.
The very same body, dominated by republicans, jumps on the Fearmonger Express with the dimwits over the Dubai Ports deal, embarrassing the President and snubbing an ally in a blatant display of racism, and the President is supposed to care what they have to say?
The man doesn't have to stand for re-election, and quite frankly, he doesn't have to help anyone else get re-elected, either.
Before Congressional republicans (or anyone else, for that matter) starts throwing stones, they should take a good, long look in the mirror. There's been quite a lot of attitude and stupidity (not to mention cowardice and opportunism) in Congress, too.
People in glass houses and all that...
the trouble with all politicians is worrying about getting reelected is above all to them---some things like the 'protection of the nation' is a damned sight more important than any state 'pork'---goes for my senators here in Pa as well---I would support any man who had the 'guts' to stand for what is "right' and forego the damned money (most of which gets sucked off well before it gets to the people or their best interests)
