March 16, 2006 Following are the ABC News Investigative Unit's summaries of four of the nine Iraqi documents from Saddam Hussein's government, which were released by the U.S. government Wednesday.
The documents discuss Osama bin Laden, weapons of mass destruction, al Qaeda and more.
The full documents can be found on the U.S. Army Foreign Military Studies Office Web site: http://fmso.leavenworth.army.mil/products-docex.htm.
Note: Document titles were added by ABC News.
Document dated Sept. 15, 2001
An Iraqi intelligence service document saying that their Afghani informant, who's only identified by a number, told them that the Afghani Consul Ahmed Dahastani claimed the following in front of him:
That OBL and the Taliban are in contact with Iraq and that a group of Taliban and bin Laden group members visited Iraq.
That the U.S. has proof the Iraqi government and "bin Laden's group" agreed to cooperate to attack targets inside America.
That in case the Taliban and bin Laden's group turn out to be involved in "these destructive operations," the U.S. may strike Iraq and Afghanistan.
That the Afghani consul heard about the issue of Iraq's relationship with "bin Laden's group" while he was in Iran.
At the end, the writer recommends informing "the committee of intentions" about the above-mentioned items. The signature on the document is unclear.
(Editor's Note: The controversial claim that Osama bin Laden was cooperating with Saddam Hussein is an ongoing matter of intense debate. While the assertions contained in this document clearly support the claim, the sourcing is questionable i.e. an unnamed Afghan "informant" reporting on a conversation with another Afghan "consul." The date of the document four days after 9/11 is worth noting but without further corroboration, this document is of limited evidentiary value.)
Documents dated July-August 1999
Correspondence regarding election campaigns in France. This includes a document from the Iraqi intelligence service classified as "secret," ordering the translation of important parts of a 1997 report about campaign financing laws in France. It also includes a document from the foreign minister's office indicating the report was attached. The attached translated report included very detailed information about all the regulations regarding financing of election campaigns in France. Translation was done by someone called "Salam Abdul Karim Mohammed."
(Editor's Note: This is an intriguing document which suggests Saddam Hussein's regime had a strong interest in the mechanics and legalities of financial contributions to French politicians. Several former French politicians are implicated in receiving oil vouchers from Iraq under the U.N. Oil for Food program.)
Great! now if we could just know what the writing on the mural says...
For ABC News, Unnamed Sources are Questionable, Sometimes
Oh, OK, ABC News considers unnamed sources questionable. A valid position, if it were consistent. But ABC News isn't, and regularly quotes unnamed sources without going out of its way to highlight their questionability.

Just another reason why they're circling the bowl :)
Because Dan Rather hasn't authenticated it yet?

Another GWB underestimation - He's taking the war away from the D's for 2006 and 2008 elections.
He released the documents with enough time before November for the blogs on the right to nail another spike into the heart of the MSM.
All of this 'Bush Lied' garbage is going to be gone to them, especially when people start asking questions about exactly which congress people had access and reviewed each of these documents.
The last bit of this is going to be the WMD thing. Bet you dollars to donuts there are documents in there that will refer to them having gone to Syria.
For possible copy and pasting on another website. *S*
What is sad to me is that huge portions of America have made up their minds on WMDs and these new releases will be dismissed .This will go largly ignored no matter what is found in these documents and tapes. Sorry to be so negative but it's what I'm seeing . There is a very "so what " attitude by the close minded masses.
Too bad the RINO's won't allow the "white flag" ad to be run again on TV
Pass this "white flag" ad from Dec 2005 around on the internet, it's from gop.com
http://www.gop.com/Media/120905.wmv
At least gop.com has not been taken over by the RINO's!
this excuse was NOT from Bush! It was from Negroponti who stalled the demand of Bush to get the docs out - Please don't lay this one on GW
Great pic.
Russia may have helped truck them out - but I do not believe they would take them to Russia - I'm betting on "Through Damascus to the Becca (sp?) Valley in Lebanon - Anyone doubt Syria and Lebanon wouldn't help?
Unless the tipping point is eminent. The lib/socialists will turn on their own in a heartbeat if they think they will be caught with all the egg on their faces. If they see the clear evidence that the people will finally know the truth = they will jump ship on their comrades in an attempt to avoid being shown, in clear and convincing proof, to have been deliberately participating in cover-up and manipulation of the truth.
LOL
This is a HOly War on 2 fronts - for real.
The jihadists against the rest of the world - (we do this every few hundred years!) and the other arch enemy is within - which will prove to be the more evil, in the end, remains to be seen. (The enemy who is an upfront enemy or the traitor who would help take our country down for the sake of power?)
Hey!
Cowboys are the good guys. Straight shooters. Plain speakers. Honest dealers. (no matter what Hollywood says) ;o)
thru Damascus and into the Becca Valley in Lebanon - betcha
