An M240 is not a whopping great machine gun. It's only a 7.62x51, same as civilian .308. It's considered a medium machine gun Now this is a whopping big machine gun.

There is a positive note for things American and Canadian is that now both enforcement bodies can criss-cross the borders at will. The only requirement is that an officer of the respective country is in control.
