I've said here for a long tiem that Australia is a vassal state for China now and often act as the ChiCom's proxy.

Interesting to see this begin to be noted.

This guy must be a left-wing liberal.

No. Same Party as Howard. He was Defense Minister under Howard from 2001 - 2006.

You will note that the Australians loudly declared that they wont be selling Uranium to India, right after president Bush left India.

Obviously, they didnt want their masters in beijing getting all upset at em.

Let's not panic. The Aussies have been good friends in general. We just got to show them that the alluring Chinese economic plum is poisoned.

Funyy that the 2 largest economies in the world(US and Japan) know whats going on. Australia is approaching this with a naive perspective because of communist dollars. Maybe we shouldnt sell the F-35 or our stealth tech to the aussies until we know they are on the side of democracies.

Really? wouldn't it be good for Australia though? I hear Australia has loads of high-grade uranium.

If they only care about doing business, I don't understand why they don't want some extra business. They are willing to sell to China....

Australia nears uranium deal with China
March 15, 2006 (Sydney Morning Herald)

The Australian government says it is close to signing an agreement to supply uranium to China.

Resources Minister Ian Macfarlane said Australia could soon export uranium to China.

"We are close to concluding agreements with China, I suspect," Mr Macfarlane told reporters in Perth.

Officials from China and Australia met two weeks ago in Beijing for the latest round of negotiations to set in place a framework to allow Australia to sell some of its vast stores of uranium to the Chinese.

Mr Macfarlane said Western Australia stood to lose billions of dollars if it did not change its anti-uranium stance.

"The opportunity is there for WA to share in the expansion of uranium mining industry," he said.

"It would be reasonable also to expect a diversity of supply would be sought and the Chinese buyers would be looking at an opportunity to source uranium out of Western Australia."

The WA government has decided not to reconsider uranium mining in the state for at least the next three years.

"I think that is a classic missed opportunity," Mr Macfarlane said.

If Australia isn't careful, China could turn it into its Canada.

"Last year, the country's former defense minister, Robert Hill, went so far as to describe the communist country as a kind of democracy."

Yes, it is true. The constitution of the PRC says that its system of government is a "democratic dictatorship."

From the constitution of the People's Republic of China:

"CHAPTER I. GENERAL PRINCIPLES The PRC is a socialist state under the people's democratic dictatorship led by the working class and based on the alliance of workers and peasants."

What the hell?

Historically this is nothing new. Remember Australia is a large country with a small population, thus despite its size it is a minor power. During World War II they had to decide if Britain or the emerging US would be her protector. By the end of World War II she chose the US because the US was present in Asia, while her traditional protector Britain was withdrawing from Asia. Australia knows that she one day in the future must chose between the US or an emerging China. Our presence in Asia will influence Australia decision.

I would think that the threats of bejing on taking Australian land would have some sort of influence, here.

Agreed. But I heard something about the US not sending in a replacement ambassador for 13 months and that Rice cancelled her trip two times before this one? That must have pissed the Australians off.

Last year, the country's former defense minister, Robert Hill, went so far as to describe the communist country as a kind of democracy.

And the year before that, Hill went so far as to describe syphilis as a kind of health benefit.
