While I applaud your efforts at enlightenment, I tried that sort of thing before and, for a short time, after 9/11.

It was such a waste of time. Every commonsensical statement, replete with citations and lacking ad hominum, was met with threats, mischaracterizations, condescension and, well, you know the limited gamut of such encounters.

In all that time, I still correspond with an old-fashioned classical liberal. Over eight years, I would say that he has moved from moderately left of present-day center to just a tad to the right, on some, narrowly defined issues. Eight interminable years of baby steps. However, he and his family are basically good people, bright and interesting, so the friendship has continued.

One thing he has definitely come to understand is what he calls "this despicable religion." Five years ago, all he could muster was anger at the specific individuals who flew the planes into the towers. However, he is still conflicted about war.

Just wanted to support your efforts. My husband is involved with a nonpolitical site that is bombarded with progressives, and spends a lot of time writing excellent refutations of their ideology. I sometimes help him with research, but I just cannot engage with the other side any longer. It just makes my gorge rise.

Alas . . . I have this . . . maybe dysfunctional need . . . to tryst with windmills! LOL.

At least the record can show I took SOME action instead of just whining at the idiots.

And, it does . . . refine me as a person . . . to do so without ranchor etc.
