Boy your historical understanding of Korea and Truman is really, really weak. You might want to go read about why a guy name Douglas MacArthur got fired by Truman.
Counter Insurgency is a LOT different then Total war. I suggest the Arm Chair Generals leave the military strategy to the pros since it kind of obvious they know NOTHING about it. This is NOT total war. This is limited war. It is as much political as war. LOTS different then island hopping or driving a column off the beach in Normandy during WW2 or holding a hill in Korea or even running a patrol in Viet Nam. This is completely different then any war we have ever fought. Tite slogans and simplistic sound bites do NOT work for this. Read about the El Salavador Option. We have done this before.
Re: Truman - I was thinking more about ending WWII.
You're right about Korea, however (and Viet Nam) - we have done this before. Problem was, those engagements were purposely limited to avoid further (potentially nuclear) conflicts with China/USSR.
However, the question at hand is why the press was not contained, not the Iraq war strategy.
