I think the major is not going to tell us (oh,yah, and the world and Z) what the main objective is. I think they call it "OpSec", and it's a good thing!

Does this mean that the insurgents no doubt have "plants" in every phase of every operation?
To: Dog
I have my doubts this was done to capture a HVT or wipe out the insurgency in Salah Ad-Din. I suspect the main reason it was done was to convince the Shia masses that their army and the Americans are fighting the enemy and they don't have to act on their own or join up with a pro-Iranian militia. If the Shia and Sunnis have confidence in the Iraqi Army the war will be won. If not the Sunnis will rely on the insurgents to protect them and the Shia will rely on the pro-Iranian militias to protect them and Iraq would fall apart. That is why Iraqi confidence in the military and security apparatus is the most important issue in Iraq today.

Well, well... They'll wait for nightfall to exfiltrate, and that's a big area. It would take a lot of troops with night vision to cover it.
And this is a lot of troops with night vision. This one may take awhile to work out. Patience, all!

That was along time ago before Zarqawi was a household name. It would be like if we took down Bin Laden before 911, it would have been news for two or three days and then it would have been over with.

The fact of the matter is it wasn't significant from a tactical standpoint. The really significant raids like the one that took down an entire terrorist training camp with over 60 members of al-Qaeda was hardly touched on by the media.

You do know that from December 16, 1941 until September 2, 1945, the Federal Office of Censorship had complete authority over the press - don't you?
