A frenetic last-minute attempt to place a massive public works bond on the June ballot failed late Wednesday, handing Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger a key legislative defeat in his bid for re-election.
The collapse of negotiations over the bond measure came just hours before an administrative deadline to place measures on the primary election ballot.
"We ran out of time," Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata said, after the Senate passed an urgency bill appropriating $1 billion for levee repairs from the state's reserve fund.

The bond failed. The Wilsonegger Gang was dealt a setback and the MSM can't gloat about the Republicans being forced to swallow more debt. Life is beautiful. There are times in life when its imperative to follow the maxim, "do no harm" and this was one of them. California future is too important to sacrifice it to a Governor's momentary need to be re-elected.

What happened to the "Unity" we had at the convention? Did they actually read the details in the bonds? I guess someone was listening at the conventions.
The rank and file would crush any Republican that goes for these bonds. If you want a primary challenger vote for these bonds.

There was lots of photo-op unity. But to win you need a unity of mind and heart. That's what missing from the party this year.
