As a computer-generated news site, Google News doesn't have a sense of humor -- or much sense at all, bloggers have discovered. By posting made-up articles on I-Newswire, a free press-release posting service, pranksters have discovered an easy way to get just about anything in the news.

I rarely read Google News. But even Google News usually has numerous different sources for the same story.

It's never smart to believe one story from one source.

Good advice. Rogers and Alito inspire me to keep an open mind even when a story appears that totally confirms my innermost suspicions. However, discerning readers of google news can easily notice the same story sometimes parroted verbatim, sometimes paraphrased with minor variations, by different players in Old Media. IMHO pseudo anonymous wire services produce too much of our contemporary news stories.

Sort of, but there is a disappointing amount of duplication as they often have 500 articles on an event, and yet there are really only 498 copies of the same AP article on different newspaper sites, and a couple more original articles.

But FR has a fine record of self correction, of finding and exposing fakes, better than most of the MSM.

This coming from a moron who obviously doesn't realize that CNN sometimes uses the same source (as do most of us in the news business)...

Obviously, he must feel comfortable and secure in his glass house...
