Uh-huh - Russian, Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, Korean, and Arabic were the languages of choice during my time. I sometimes wonder what it would have been like to be Asian instead of European in focus...?

I applied for Russian, German (selbstverstandlich) and Mandarin. Got N Viet Namese.
Serbo-Croatian, Korean and Turkish were big at the time too. Found out later that physicals weighed in detailing.
Knew an Arabic ling who became a Turkish retread.
