FReeper Canteen ~ What's The Origin Of Your Screenname? ~ March 16, 2006
Ms.Behavin

Posted on 03/15/2006 5:59:14 PM PST by StarCMC

What is the origin of your screen name?

Come tell us your story....

How'd ya choose your screen name?
A situation in your life?
Part of a song?
Your Military service?

For me, it was three times I came across "Misbehavin"
that decided it for me!
I bought a blouse that had that on the tag...
Then my MIL gave me a book about a cat called Ms.Behavin..
Then I heard the song "Ain't Misbehavin!"

So there ya have it!
Have fun!
Please, no politics in The Canteen..
We want our troops to rest, relax and relate!

Now tell us YOUR story!!

I'm an August, '52 kid. All of my Nebraska aunts sent my babycards with notes about the earthquake coinciding with my birth. That's my only "current" event to share from that year. It did, however, seem to produce a couple of FReepers. :-)

I used to have another screen name but due to circumstances beyond my control I had to get a new one. "jeremiah" because the one in the Old Testament told truths many people didn't like to hear, and he got in a lot of trouble, and "little" because I'm just a yapping chihuahua compared to him.

One might think from the number 58 behind my name that I was either born in '58 or that I am 58 years old. If one thought that, one would be wrong.

My real name is graybeard58 as was my father's graybeard57 and his before him going back 58 generations from me. Accordingly, I named my son graybeard59 my grandson is graybeard60. If you will click my screen name you will see my handsome new great grand son - graybeard61.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Thanks for the ping!

Before Dubya was President there was this other guy - the one for whom we coined a new term for the deposit on a certain blue dress - "presidue" - well, anyway I'd found this incredible website and was signing up, all hot to post, when it prompted me for a screen name - egad! Instant "password freeze" - and so, heaven help me, I picked "Bill" and in reference to the sexual proclivities of the other Bill I chose "the drill" as a...as a...oh, never mind.

That's all there is to it. I'd change it but I'm not gonna give up that "signed by" date and anyway, picking an appropriate screen name isn't easy. "Zoltan the Grim, Conqueror Of The Seven Universes" is a little too long. "I Brake For Beer" might be OK. No, wait, I've got it. "Jim Robinson." Yeah...nobody'd think of that one...

Tanniker Smith.

He's an Outlaw. From another world. Or maybe another dimension. He came through the Drifter's Nexus.

What does all that mean? Well, once upon a time there was a card game called "Magic: the Gathering". Actually, there still is such a game. However, when it was new, back in 1994, it created a series of copycat games. Most of them were, to be kind, garbage.

In 1995, a company called FPG, Inc, which published Fantasy Art Cards, pooled their artist resource talent and put out a game that had what no game had up until that time: phenomenal artwork. And the game wasn't bad either. And it didn't take itself too seriously. (One of the cards was called "Floyd, the Flying Pig". Another was "Gn'Omish Gnomes" -- you had to see the artwork on that latter one.)

So there was this cool card with this cool name in the second expansion: Tanniker Smith. I thought there had to be some kind of story behind it, but I couldn't find any. It sort of science-fictionish in an E.E. "Doc" Smith kind of way, I guess. (In fact, if you Google it now, you'll get four pages of links, most of which take you back to F.R.)

Below is some of the artwork. Sadly, I don't have a digital image of Tanniker. Maybe sometime I'll dig out those cards and scan him in.

For more on the game, go to one of the best fan sites that I know of: http://www.io.com/~cjburke/guardians/

My screen name is from the item that helped keep my dad alive through WWII, and sending lots of Nazis to meet their maker

My name is mostly from the AIM-9 (current version, AIM-9X) heatseeking missile, but also from the fact that back in my CompuServe days in the early 90's I used to go around looking for liberals to pick fights with (wasn't hard).

The AC/DC song isn't bad either, if a bit bawdy. ;)

Okay, here's my deal, and I'm sorry if I'm late to the party. I chose my screen name shortly after I moved here, because my husband worked for Canada and had a good job offer. I heard Rush talk about FR and that was it...

I went here and started talking to people like Doug from Upland.

9/11 changed everything.

Since then, I've had letters to the editor published here in Canada....and I've received hate mail in response. Just because I defended, in words, the US. All I know is... when I first got nNternet access, I lurked at FR for a while, then decided to join up. And then in a move of "in your face" I made my screen name something to remind Canadians how they should be grateful, instead of getting mad at the U.S. Because the US would be at Canada's aide immediately.

Okay, I'm sorry, I am so tired, working at a newspaper. I meantwhat I said, though.
