I've worked with prominent attorneys who get death threats from people who claim the lawyers are controlling them via radio waves. I've represented a tv weather lady who was being stalked by an obseesed fan. This stuff is common, and there was nothing in either O'Connor's or Ginzburg's statements to ring my bell. I know O'Connor is not a democrat, but this statement was by Ginzburg and the article (if not Ginzburg) fingers republicans as the culprits. I would be shocked if every justice doesn't receive threats from all manner of kooks. I don't think it justifies blaming republicans who dare to dispute the role of liberal judges. A conservative judge wouldn't consider giving a speech about a stupid kook group's threats.

Ginsburg said, "Critics in Congress and in the media misperceive how and why U.S. courts refer to foreign and international court decisions." She said those decisions are used for guidance only.

Ginsburg says foreign laws are used for guidance only, but if a future SC decision was actually "based" on foreign law would that decision be constitutional or not?

If it was what would that do to our Constitution?

If it wasn't what remedy would the plaintiffs have?

Ginsburg said the Web threat was apparently prompted by legislation in Congress, filed by Republicans, that would bar judges from relying on foreign laws or court decisions.

But the ruling that relied on foreign laws or court decisions, thus prompting the legislation, had nothing to do with it.

With duplicitous reasoning like that, it's not surprising she's getting threats.

My poinbt being that she doesn't deserve to be compared with Ginsberg. And she was with Rhenquist in key cases like Kelo and Bush Vs Gore.

Ginsburg said, "Critics in Congress and in the media misperceive how and why U.S. courts refer to foreign and international court decisions." She said those decisions are used for guidance only.

Like hell she did. From the transcript:... Ginsburg is so two-faced in this speech that it's hard to adquately put into words her mendacity.

I guess GINA HOLLAND, ASSOCIATED PRESS WRITER, has embarked on a career of "helping" the news.

Is killing a judge an appropriate consequence? Nope. But impeaching said Justices IS.

Follow the Constitution and the problems will go away.

But she doesn't want to do that either.

I guess the only thing to do is give up and just let her have her way. < /sarc >

Is there some sort of problem here? Sounds like Justice Ginsburg is trying to blame other people for her ill-behavior.

Simply shows Malveaux is devoid of creativity, or even a basic understanding of chemistry.

We all knew that anyway.

If she like foreign law so much, perhaps she start quoting Sharia Law in her decisions.

"Sniff...I am a victim."

AP reporter GINA HOLLAND...

Her husband George Shelton is partner at the "Oldest Existing Democratic Media Firm."

"The Democratic media consulting firm Strother Duffy Strother has changed its name to Strother Duffy Shelton. The change is for George Shelton, the former communications director at the Democratic Governors Association who has been with the firm since 2001. "

Apparently the Justice is not smart enough to understand the tactics of the left - it is par for the course for leftist agitators to pretend that they are "conservative" and make racist or other vile remarks that they mistakenly think that a conservative would use in order to stir up a backlash against conservatives.

Anybody who would make assumptions and grand, sweeping generalizations based on an isolated anonymous posting in an Internet chat room, deciding that that particular threat was spurred on by Republican criticism of the Supreme Court, and featuring it in a public speech, is, frankly, an idiot, regardless of whether they are a Supreme Court Justice or a Congressman or a journalist. There are some conservatives who make the same mistake - for example some talk show hosts and journalists lately have taken to making references to DU postings on the air or in print - and, granted, a lot of those postings are indeed authored by fringe lunatic Demo/Commies, to wide acclaim and approval... But a not insignificant proportion of those posts are made by people posing as Demo/Commie lunatics, with the goal of discrediting the "progressive movement" (funny, I always thought that it discredited itself, without needing any outside help). On FR, at least, the moonbat stuff usually gets removed, while on DU it is celebrated.

I heard Kennedy give a speech to my local bar association asking us to speak out against public pressure being brought to bear upon the S.Ct. Apparently, it's unprecedented.

When I hear Scalia and Thomas complaining about it, I'll believe it's bi-partisan or coming from random loonies.

Right now I believe it's mostly coming from people who want to get rid of abortion, gay marriage, and other conservative causes, and don't want to wait for the political process to work itself out.

Just reading some of the messages on this thread before they were eradicated by the mods makes me queasy.

I don't read DU but agree that the Mods do a good job of politing Free Republic when someone hits the Abuse button.

Some of the moonbats, I wish there was a button to notify the FBI!

I seem to recall that the article I read about this said that someone made a vague threat toward her on a website, something to the effect that if the people on the website really were patriots, two of the justices wouldn't last another week. Boy, now that's something to be afraid of. You could easily be a liberal posting something like that here as a disrupter, then point it out to the "MSM" so that they can run with it. I'm just not buying the validity of these threats, sorry.
