"Getting it" would be indicated by a call to enforce the existing laws.

Only thing Frist gets is that he wants to be President.

plans to introduce a bill that deals solely with border security as early as today.
Good! Lets deal with the mess one peace at a time to ensure that no amnesty program is attached.

Not a Frist fan, or anyone else at this time for that matter, but I'm willing to go with anyone who will address this and other serious matters.
To: dennisw
The bill would beef up security along the U.S.-Mexico border, provide funding for thousands more border patrol agents and build small sections of fencing in areas of key traffic.Recent history shows that all that will do is shift the traffic elsewhere. Frist needs to beef up the bill to fence the entire border.

I think this is a good idea even though it is pure political pandering. I think we need to deal with the security before we worry about a guest worker program. We need an efficient way to send illegals caught in the US back to Mexico. I also think we should also look at inserting a tracking device in all criminals including illegals.

Mr. Bill thinks he's gonna get the '08 nomination and knows he can't let the Dims get to his right on border security.

If Frist really wants to "get it", he needs to beef up the border and fine employers that hire illegal aliens. Only by denying illegals jobs in this country will the problem start moving in the right direction.

..would suggest sending troops to re-capture our border cities like Laredo, tx.
To: dennisw
Boy, does that make sense! Let's stop the leakage before we deal with the illegals already here. One step at a time. After we stop the hemorrhaging; we can deal with those illegals that are here in a responsible, just, and humane manner.

Frist must have looked at the research showing him with a popularity of about 0.1% as a presidential candidate and decided wishy/washy wasn't working too well. I understand in Memphis last weekend he was decrying the Congress's big-spending ways as though someone had been pointing a gun at him when he voted for all the massive spending bills.
Because Tancredo is about the only congressman with a national reputation actually trying to do something about this outrageous issue, if Frist were to suddenly get serious on tightening immigration, he could definitely carve out a niche for himself. As always, the proof will be in the pudding: will he introduce a bill substantially identical to that passed by the House, or will it be mere window dressing?

Deporting every illegal apprehended by any domestic law enforcement agency and increasing the quotas for legal immigration (to reflect reality) would also be helpful.
