It was up to the Bush Administration to corrdinate the argument for the deal and get the facts straight. Their response: we will veto anything that questions us. There you go. That a great argument to get support for what you are doing. EVERY time since Katrina, the Bush administration fails to act effectively in the face of attack.

You have a point in what you say about the initial reaction by the President. But that does not excuse the way the House and especially the Senate handled the whole thing, it's inexcusable. These people are on the Hill to do what is best for our country and they didn't take the time to do that. They were more interested in pandering votes for the upcoming election by scare tactics.
