Shock continues to spread throughout the local community as people learn that Mountain View resident and federal Judge James Ware lied about a family murder.
When Ware spoke in Los Altos at the Morning Forum Feb. 4, 1997, he brought the audience to tears recalling how he held his dying brother in his arms in a ditch after the boy was shot by a white man in 1963.
"I came out of that ditch with a hunger for justice," the Town Crier quoted Ware as telling the audience. "Since that day, I dedicated my life toward equal justice and a life where everyone can be proud," Ware said.
Except that now Ware admits he never had a brother who was murdered. A Virgil Ware was shot in Birmingham, Ala., who had a brother James. But it was not this James Ware.
Los Altos Hills resident Marjorie Kellogg heard Ware. "The story was very believable and very moving, very emotional."
"He is a human being who apparently made a mistake by telling a very sad and deeply-moving story about a real event that could have been, but was not, his own," she said.
"I am in shock and pain," said Los Altos Hills resident Len Edwards, a nationally recognized and award-winning juvenile court judge who presides in San Jose.
"I like him so much. I admire him so much. I know the pain he must be in," Edwards said. "He's one of our heroes. He's one of the people who's as good as they get.
"That this misstep should occur in an otherwise unblemished career. I don't think it will stop him from being the great judge that he is."
Ware withdrew his name Thursday from consideration for a prestigious appellate court position.

I seem to remeber that my pastg got checkerede... and it's never ben the same sense.
I don't know what a checkerede pastg is, but it's undoubtedly series and huh.
I've done a little googling on him. He seems to have been appointed to the federal bench in 1990, which makes him a GHW Bush appointee.
In addition to this story, I found another:
'Ware, 55, made headlines in 1996, when he ruled against Governor Pete Wilson and the state of California for not complying with Congress' Motor Voter law, which mandates that states give citizens the ability to register to vote while they renew their license at the DMV, or perform other tasks related to the state.'
' "After my decision, I monitored the state's compliance for a while," Ware said, calling the program successful, since voter roles have increased as a result of the program.'
So, this guy is largely responsible for the tens of millions of illegal aliens now voting in California, it seems.
A checkerede pastg can really stune your beeber.
Gigle Laz Has Pkrodicly Murkl
