I heard that there is a coal mine fire in China that has been burning for decades. That it puts out as much pollution as all the cars in the US. Of course, that was Art Bell.

Nope it is in Centralia Pennsylvania.
A coal vein has been burning under the Pennsylvania mining town of Centralia since 1961.

I read the same thing in one of the science magazines some years ago. However, it was reported to put out 50% of the CO 2 of all mankind---not just the US.

I visited a steel mill in Japan in the early 90's. They would throw used tires right into their blast furnaces.
