And this is on top of the infanticide that occurs when all of the fertilized embryos are destroyed.

and what about the embryos/children who don't make it? those who are implanted and are consumed and dissolved by the mother's immune system, those that are left over after their sibling is born who are frozen in liquid nitrogen?

People need to stop playing God.
As one priest put it, sex without babies and babies without sex.

Amazing how things feeds on itself.
IVF -> increase in brain defects -> increase in abortions.

Just wait.
The "I need to make another me, no matter what" crowd will be along any time to tell you how wonderful IVF is.
Brain damage for the child? Perfectly acceptable risk.

Wait till cloning humans becomes a reality. Eventually it will. I shudder in horror as I think about all the "mistakes" they will go through till they succeed. That could be the ultimate narcissistic experience.

Brain damage for the child? Perfectly acceptable risk. So we've gone from a miniscule risk to a slightly more than miniscule risk? I'm underwhelmed.

You mean, I'm "them"? I'm opposed to IVF.

Well, the context of IVF is a sort of entitlement philosophy. I want a baby of my own and therefore I deserve one. Why people spend tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars and risk great health problems (particularly in older women who put off having kids until after their bio clock had expired) just to scratch this itch is beyond me.
Sorry if I misunderstood your post.

I don't think you can dismiss the yearning for a child of one's own flesh as "needing to make another me," no matter what you think of IVF. No, but one can wonder why someone would pass by kids who need a family in order to poor tens of thousands of dollars into IVF.

Maybe it's me ... but that sounds a tad selfish to me ... . Then again, if it's not perfect you can always abort it, right?

I misunderstood your position on IVF. SO chalk up my last post to you as dark sarcasm.
Initially I was neutral on IVF. I didn't know much about it. As I learned more I became more opposed to it. If God wanted them to have kids, they'd have them is the way I view it now.

It's ALL about them; not the baby.
A neighbor of ours went through IVF four times. Finally they were successful with two babies. Both babies were very sickly - "failure to thrive". The second time around she handled the "failure to thrive" better. Of course some turn out okay. Even though she finally had her two kids, she was disgusted with herself that she was unable to conceive naturally. Artificial conception appears to have some stigma attached to it.
They were lucky that all was covered by insurance. It was 30K a pop at the time. Her husband worked for Johnson and Johnson and they are fairly family friendly.
