They are the exception that proves the rule.

Selling our cans to China might be a good colloquial but it is horrible policy.

OMG LOL Check this out . . . Old_Mill is spamming threads with lefty moonbat material.

If the statistics are wrong, I'm sure you'll be willing to provide correct ones and cite their source. Alternatively, perhaps you just don't understand their significance. Or maybe, being unable to provide an effective answer you're resorted, yet again, to name calling.

Redistribution? From the poor to the rich? LOL!!

Redistribution from the middle class to everyone else. Unless, of course, you are inclined to think of the middle class as "poor," which may be part of the problem.

In what may be a shock to some and especially to certain liberals and disrupters, Free Republic was not created to "debate" liberal ideas or policy or to allow the liberals and moderates the advantage of setting the subject or tone of the discussion.
--Jim Robinson, The Purpose of Free Republic, November 27, 1997.

Moreover, observing that you are posting material from a self-described "progressive" organization is not a personal attack.

Evidently, you have trouble distinguishing between "liberal ideas or policy" and "economic statistics." So I ask you again, if you have economic statistics from another source that prove these to be incorrect, feel free to share them.

None of these protetionists have skills that are in demand, ever notice. If you been outsourced, or are about to be, you need to take care of yourself and learn what skills are needed. You may also have to move. Nothing pisses me off when someone in SillyValley looses a 200k job, complains about the cost of living, and refused to move.

Yes. I think it might be helpful if everyone just closed their eyes and repeated the following: Nobody Owes Me Anything. It may sound harsh, but is the truth.

So what? They choose to be CEOs for the perks and $$$. You CHOOSE not to be a CEO and you do not have the perks etc. Your life is the result of YOUR chooses. I know many of these people and they work their buts off while you sit around and FReep. Quit whining about what you DO NOT have in guise of complaining about what others have. Plus the OWNERs of a company have the absolute right to pay their employees whatever they want. What is wrong with that? Do you think the Congress or a bunch of stupid, lazy, ignorant, envious FReepers should? Give me a break.

Well, your attitudes are straight out of the 19th century. Your world view in action gave rise to Marx and the union movement. The old is new again.

Excellent point. Business people simply must look for the long view. I do worry that many investors focus too much on quarterly profits.

Your point is really apparent when you watch any Business show on TV, like Cavuto or even CNN. Even on the liberal channels, you can see that the true capitalists are supporters of free enterprise and low taxes. Business people want economic freedom and prosperity. Business people look to the future because that is the nature of free enterprise.

Who do you think the interviewed "senior official" is? Did you see that the Newsweek article on the ports debacle of March 6th...explicitly said that the President's staff were all seen carrying copies of Thomas Friedman's globalist-liberal screed..."The World is Flat."

We need to formally make anti-globalism a plank of the GOP platform.

This may have to take the form of the Party Formally Disagreeing with the sitting President:

E.g.,

the White House plans to have Mr. Bush expand his discussion of the need for the United States to embrace a new role in the world, even if that means explaining the benefits of globalization to a nation that does not appear to be in a mood to hear that message.

Its not a "mood" or a "temper tantrum" or a "prejudice." Its a fixed political position based on conservative philosophy and constitutional law. One that the President swore to uphold...

The ratio of average CEO pay (now $11.8 million) to worker pay (now $27,460) spiked up from 301-to-1 in 2003 to 431-to-1 in 2004. If the minimum wage had risen as fast as CEO pay since 1990, the lowest paid workers in the US would be earning $23.03 an hour today, not $5.15 an hour.

If the statistics are wrong, I'm sure you'll be willing to provide correct ones and cite their source.

First of all, who makes $5.15 an hour anymore other than people who also earn tips? You'd be hard pressed to find anyone at a McDonald's earning minimum wage. Your source is the problem. If you'd spend more time on conservative sites you wouldn't fall for this leftist propaganda. Here's an article (from a conservative source) that debunks all the nonsense in your post.

LOL. you think business owners should not be allowed to pay their employees what ever they want? Who decides then? You? Don't make me laugh!!

Marxism! what a fool you are. For the government or even ignorant BLOOGERs like you to have any say whatsoever is a FReeping JOKE. You want some say, dopey, then buy some stock - you then get all the say you can handle. Fool.

dane, check out this idiot. I'm telling you FReep has some of the stupidist people on the planet when it comes to economics!!

Business owners should be free to pay their employees whatever they want. And employees should be free to accept or reject those terms of employment. Business owners should not be allowed to backdoor wage controls through massive illegal immigration just because they believe someone "should" only make a certain amount.

I spend plenty of time on conservative sites, thanks. The article you link to criticizes some of the methodology used to come up with statistics based on speculation - and most tellingly, does not put forth an alternative set of figures to show that CEO pay has not risen disproportionately faster than other pay grades.

As far as the stock options argument goes, that's fairly transparent; stock options (regardless how they are reported or expensed) effectively are part of a compensation package and should rightly be included in such.

You talk an incredible amount of nonsense.

Any job done in front of a computer can be outsourced so it is fundamentally stupid to babble about 'get a new skill'. If outsourcing and globalization and open borders are the inexhorable wave of the future then the tides of history are just plain against the American worker and his standard of living will inevitably sink to Third World levels. God did not give Americans some magical smarts that he did not give to any other nation on this planet.

Only a fool 'competes' in a rigged game. Your simple brained 'can do' optimism is no match for the tides of history. Carried to your level it is just moronic wishful thinking. The only response is by Americans banding together to reverse the 'tides of history'. To demand that the game be rigged in your favor instead of against you. The alternative is to 'compete' in who will work longer for less.

Your tagline is "elections matter" but your attitude is pure "let them eat cake".

You are a modern version of the Liberty League. During the Depression they were a pressure group formed to fight the New Deal. They came off as rich people in yachts and penthouses smugly lecturing the unemployed on the breadlines about bootstrap rugged individualism. In short, just like you.

The Liberty League enabled the Democrats to be majority party for a generation. As will you if unchecked.

It's a fixed position by a country that has figured out why they haven't had a raise in 5 years. Because outsourcing, globalization, and illegals are keeping their wages down.

We can be the party of selfish people who live entirely off of financial services at the direct expense of Americans who live off of paychecks and are as contemptuously indifferent to this country as sunnyflorida is or we can be the party of working Americans. Which is the road to a majority ?

Rather than call me a fool, you would be better served to take a look at the conditions that gave rise to Marxism. A wise man would know that there is a lesson to be learned from history and avoid making the same mistakes.

You don't own any stock, do you. I have, but never enough stock to give me any say in how a corporation should be run; unless, of course, I choose to rubber stamp the board and CEO.

I'm telling you FReep has some of the stupidist people on the planet when it comes to economics!!

On this, we agree.

Smart business owners pay only what they have to.

Why oh why can't you protectionist understand the difference between legal and illegal immigration?
