I see your point, and do not entirely disagree with you, actually. It is the tactics of this particular get together that I have a problem with. Anyone who believes putting the Dems back in power helps the immigration issue one iota is in serious denial.

I wish I could stay and discuss it further but I am falling down tired and have a big day tomorrow.

So, I'll wish you a good evening. I hope we can talk about this further later.

All I can say is...be careful out there. Or maybe take a deep breath and calm down a little bit.

Wow.

Ok, it's off to bed for me.

ILLEGAL ALIENS PROTEST IN CHICAGO
By Michelle Malkin   ·   March 10, 2006 08:57 PM

Nothing like a true immigration enforcement bill to bring illegal alien activists out of the shadows. The crowd protesting the House GOP border security and interior enforcement bill H.R. 4437 in Chicago today was massive--estimated at 75,000:

chicmarch002.jpg

Quotes from the march:

"What are Americans going to do without the Latin people? We do the jobs white people don't want to do." - Mario Leguizamo, 21, of suburban Cicero.

"As indigenous people, we are not immigrants. ... When we talk about homeland security, we really needed that in 1492." - Alma Montes, a member of an Aztec dancing group that performed near the rally.

Bloggers at Freedom Folks report on the march:

"Si, se puede!" was the cry of the crowd in Chicago today -- yes we can. Thousands upon thousands of illegal aliens and their supporters gathered in Union Park, then marched down Jackson Street to The Loop. Jamming the plaza, as well as the surrounding streets and sidewalks, they rallied to cheer on those who had come to speak.

They demanded legalization for all immigrants. They patted each other on the back for working hard and having dreams. They lauded politicians who devote themselves to representing "the people," which evidently, in their minds, includes "the people" who have come here illegally and don't get to vote. They demanded justice. They jeered HR4437, the House bill passed last December that would make coming here illegally a criminal offense, rather than a civil one, that calls for a fence on the border, and that would penalize anyone who hires and/or helps someone to come or stay here illegally.

Mayor Daley even got up to add his support, which made no sense:

"Don't let anyone tell you you're an immigrant," he shouted. "We're all immigrants!"

???

Next stop: The Gold Card Express.

If the president is weakened it is because he weakened himself. If he refuses to secure our borders he will suffer the consequences for that decision.I'm not willing to let the president off the hook for everything just because he's a republican.

"For calling the Minutemen and other border watchers "vigilantes""

Gotta admit. That one made the hairs on my neck stand straight up.

That was one of his best efforts, on the border issue, it made lots of people mad. The law of unintended consequences in action. It helped me make the decision to spend as much time as possible on the Border, I was there the last two nights.

I hope he makes a similar statement about the upcoming border watch operations this April.

You're right; Bush is a political retard. He is an easy target for Democrats. If the Democrats didn't have such bad ideas and didn't allign themselves with the biggest cooks on earth, Bush would have been defeated last time around (thank God he didn't though).

Oh, and welcome to Free Republic. My guess is your stay will be very limited.

No, liberals and lefties are not Americans. They detest all that America stood for and have worked very hard and somewhat successfully to destroy those unique values known as American. While not perfect, its the best dam country the earth will ever see until God shows up. You will not be here long at all, since you so open minded, your brain has fallen out.

"since you are so open minded"

Open-mindedness is not tolerated at FR. Self-deception and collective denial rules.

Being open minded is fine, but as is usual, liberals take it to the extreme, sorry you dont know that.

A person who readily drinks the koolaid of either faction of the two-party cartel that rules this country, is still nothing more than that, regardless the party they march in lockstep with. ...A Koolaid drinker.

Interesting comments on this thread. A public demonstration in Crawford could be a good idea...FR and others scored points in their anti-Sheehan presence last year.

I'm sorry, but anyone who denies we have a problem with illegal immigration is either stupid or ignorant. One is curable, the other accompanies you to your grave.

It's the resolution of the problem that appears to be where we find our disagreements. With my experiences living here on the border, I have to say that sealing the border between ports of entry as a first step is the only way to resolve the problem. Sanctions, deportations, increased worker visas - those are all solutions that take a back seat to the first.

McCain is currently one of the frontrunners, and what was his most recent
act in Washington? Attending a rally with Hillary Clinton, Ted Kennedy,
Chuck Schumer and illegal aliens to promote amnesty for illegals! We
cannot let our next President favor amnesty! Vote now to show others that
Tom Tancredo is a wise choice for President.

The issue is that we who live on the border live in an undeclared war zone. Our concerns are ignored, and at times we are even taunted by those officials who are supposed to defend us as US Citizens. I understand what you are saying, but please listen to what we are saying. We have tried to reach out to our elected representatives, and are met with silence- or worse plans that will only make the situation worse. Frustration is growing and there seems to be no way to get the help we so desperately need. The only way I see to get the problems the attention they deserve is through publicity. Nothing else has worked.

Since you seem to think we are playing into the liberal's hands, what do you suggest we do?

The demonstration in Chicago in support of illegal aliens and getting them special perks should scare people in taking serious actions against this menace. We need to protect our borders and we need to deport the criminals.

I agree with you that a major fence/barrier has to be the first step in a real solution to the border problems. Without a barrier to slow the flood, nothing else we do will work. Those who don't understand how serious the problems really are promote new laws and some sort of band aid amnesty. Those of us who deal with the border problems every day know that there will be no easy fix and most of what is now proposed as a solution will make the problems worse not better.

Those who think protesting at Crawford is wrong, I would like to know what they think those of us who live on the border should do? I am open to suggestions, I have contacted my elected officials and even wrote a letter to President Bush directly to voice my concerns. I totally supported President Bush in both elections, but I haven't felt any support from him on the border issues, everything I have heard from him would make the situation worse. I lost a lot of respect for the President when he called the Minutemen vigilantes. It is easy to tell someone what they shouldn't do- but I wish those who are doing it here would tell us what they would do. I am open to suggestions, but I resent the fact that those who don't live on the border act as though we should just sit down, shut up and take it.
