"I actually think it's unseemly for conservatives to play race cards and think it's perfectly reasonable for Americans to be wary of Muslims, muslim Arabs or whomever has something of a track record of being against our interest."
Sorry, all you need to do is look at some of the posts on FR and at letters to the editor to see that it very much was about anti-Muslim bias and Bush was right to call his critics on that. Your statement illustrates that. If Americans really were looking at a "track record" and not "race" for lack of a better term, they would be looking at a country with a very good record in aiding us in the war on terror and not merely looking at them as "Muslims."
I'm getting a little tired of the claim that Bush was using "the race card". If someone criticizes, say Jesse Jackson, for his behavior and comments and defenders say, you're just doing that because you're racist. That is playing the race card. If someone opposes Jesse Jackson by arguing , "Hey, blacks have a track record of acting like that." That is racism and people are right to call it as such.
Btw....I was married to an ethnic Arab Christian and have two daughters with her, one of whom lives with me and have Maronite DNA on my mom's side so save the racist stuff for someone else...lol
btw...at least one good thing came out of bayourant (bayourod) lying about holdonow......JR canned him-her...good riddance
