Military officers can't publicly disagree with the President without risking dismissal. You need only look back to Gen Singlaub's public criticism of Jimmy Carter regarding Korea. If they disagree with the President we aren't likely to hear about it until they retire.

Actually, I think that Abizaid was echoing President Bush's sentiments about not painting all Arab countries with a broad brush....but, I could be wrong.
