Fleece attack text:

- “Attacks President Bush on War On Terror”
- “At a time when President Bush needed support on the War on Terror, Don Zimmerman stood with liberal Democrats like Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton against President Bush”
- “Don Zimmerman even went as far as attacking President Bush in a letter to the editor calling him “Tyrannical George, the King”
Letter to the editor, Austin American Statesman, August 16, 2004

This was in a response to a Letter to the Editor of Don opposing American Citizens being held in secret without legal counsel. Fleece gets the date wrong, the reference to the King of England wrong, and smears anyone who doesn't want American citizens held in secret without legal counsel as standing with Hillary and Kennedy.

Here is the 8/16/02 letter:

LETTERS

BYLINE: AMERICAN-STATESMAN
DATE: August 16, 2002
PUBLICATION: Austin American-Statesman (TX)

SECTION: Editorial

Fight for rights

The American-Statesman states it correctly in the Aug. 11 editorial "Threatening to upend system of checks, balances," referring to an American citizen held in secret without legal counsel.

I'm stridently opposed to the terrorist killers we call the Taliban. I'm even more opposed to our own government denying the rights of the accused. Our own founders were branded rebels and traitors by the tyrannical George, the king. Shall we permit George W. Bush to plunder liberty for promised security?

When Big Brother fights our God-given freedom, let's wave our flags, not waive our rights.

DON ZIMMERMAN

Field Director

Republican Liberty Caucus of Texas

Austin

Also, remember on August 16,2002, Iraq wasn't the same issue that it is today and Bush's approval rating was pretty high. The distortion of the date in the attack ad almost seems to be purposeful to make it look more recent.
