I loved Buchwald until the Nixon thing came down.

His hatred of Nixon was akin to a lot of the Bush hatred going around today. I discovered you can't hate like that and still be funny. Nixon brought him down. He was never really funny again.

But I wish him well.

Broder too despises Nixon to this day. It's a mental illness with some dems.

If you look back at his columns from those days you'll see that much of his more "nasty needling" was toward Haldeman and Ehrlichman and some of the other surly "characters" around Nixon.

But, I hear what you are saying.

I just liked him because I'd see him on the Vineyard, and he's be walking around Edgartown in the early morning, right after sunrise, and somehow, he already had found something good to munch on. He was a riot in person...... we'd sit there on a bench and talk for quite a long time, year after year. I never let him know that I knew who he was and he never acted like he knew who I was.
