Romney's Mormonism won't make much difference to mostRepublicans. However, the left will use that cudgel to bash Romney at every opportunity, trying to shave off Hispanic and black voters, as well as those in our party who are a bit bigoted.

I would like Matthews to explain why it is acceptable for him to atack Governor Romney's religion.

Kennedy was successful smearing Romney's religious beliefs years ago when Romney and he faced each other in the race for his senate seat. Matthews, originally from MA -- he was a Tip O'Neill staffer, must have thought attacking Mormonism would play well with some, and it's something Romney will have to deal with. (His wife has MS, so it won't be long before stem cell research is tossed into the attack mix, as well.)
