Alpine, Calif. -- A group of illegal immigrants got lost in freezing, snowy country in eastern San Diego County and one died before six others were rescued Saturday, the Border Patrol said.
The Mexican nationals, all men, became disoriented near Corte Madera in Pine Valley, a high-elevation rural area east of San Diego, Border Patrol spokesman Richard Kite said.
A storm had dumped 8 inches to 1 1/2 feet of snow on the ground, he said.
One of the men either had a cell phone or used a roadway call box to contact the California Highway Patrol at about 7:30 a.m., Kite said.
The CHP contacted the Border Patrol to say there were "people in distress in the snow," and agents trained in back-country rescue hunted about three hours before finding the group, Kite said.
One man, whose identity was not immediately known, was pronounced dead at the scene. The others were treated at the scene, possibly for mild hypothermia, but none of their conditions was life-threatening, Kite said.

When one decides to become a criminal he assumes the risks that go with becoming a criminal.
"...agents trained in back-country rescue hunted about three hours before finding the group, Kite said."
And who's going to pay for that search party? You guessed it!
I had pondered the thought of putting up dog kennels along the border but those drug-trafficking thugs would probably poison them...unless they were trained not to take food from strangers.

Often sad but true, a teenager dies trying to slip down a chimney to do a burglary, a woman is killed by her pimp, a teenager dies in a drug deal, we know they died because of what they were involved in. By the way the weather this weekend in San Diego was unbelievable, (for us).
I live in So. Cal. and it was unusually cold and rainy, and the snow level dropped down to I think, 3000ft.
2000 ft, at 400 ft my tomato plants are taking a beating from two days of rain and hail, the people in Minnesota and New York can't possibly know the hell we are going through.
It was fate.
Well at least they didn't go hungry...
Maybe this is the reason there aren't so many Canadians crossing from the north?
Clearly "Global Warming" has them yearning for colder climates, and those wacky Canadians are just passing through on their way to Antarctica.
Maybe they should have STAYED HOME!
LOL. (You're incorrigible.)
That's the nicest thing anyone's said to me all week.
Seriesly.

Really?
I always thought that you were one of the most corrigible people here.
; )
Well he isn't lost anymore.

They just kept bringing them bottles of water (that quickly froze). The human rights groups had not geared up in time to bring them blankets instead of the water.
By next week, the human rights groups vow to have plenty of blankets to pass out.
