BDS [Bush Derangement Syndrome] On the Right (Paleocons, and the like)
To The Point ^ | March 9, 2005 | Dr. Jack Wheeler

Posted on 03/11/2006 4:08:48 PM PST by quidnunc

Ever since George W. Bush won the presidency by preventing Al Gore's hanging-chad attempt to steal it, liberal Democrats have become progressively infected with BDS — Bush Derangement Syndrome.

Here's how I think that the contagion of BDS is now infecting a number of conservative Republicans.

If you're a guy, perhaps you have endured this unpleasant and bewildering experience. You're in a relationship and you and the lady have had some disagreements but nothing major. From your perspective things are pretty ok. Then one day you and she disagree on some minor trivial issue — and suddenly, inexplicably, it escalates as she unloads on you.

It seems like the love of your life has had a personality transplant, you're facing a virago disgorging a torrent of anger, and all you can think is, "Where did this come from?"

If you're a guy, you're nodding your head in understanding. If you're a gal, you're muttering, "Men are so clueless. We give them all these hints for so long that things are bugging us, they never get the message, then when we finally can't take it any more and snap, they're mystified."

I think you get the analogy.

A relationship that suffers this trauma can survive only if both parties calm down afterwards, focus on their mutual interests and commitment, and work together to solve their grievances.

-snip-

But it's another thing entirely when Duncan Hunter (R-CA), chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, goes around the bend and offers a bill to make all foreign ownership or leasing of any cargo terminal in any US port illegal. Duncan, my buddy whom I've gone quail hunting with, how could he get so nuts?

There are some 3,200 terminals in US ports. 80% of them are foreign owned or leased. Unions and government regulations have made it impossible for US shipping companies to stay in business, making them bit players in the international shipping business. (See this story in the New York Times, US Companies Weighed Anchor on Ports Long Ago.)

Duncan's bill would cause astronomical damage to the US economy, but he doesn't care because he's on a BDS rant.

(i have watched your posting habits) and then whine about "Ugly Conservatives" when called on it.

As we have watched yours; nobody needs to look any further than this very thread to see what you're all about.

I had serious reservations about her qualifications.

Based on reviewing the evidence available, Alito, in my judgment, was by far the better choice.

He's a splendid choice. I am thrilled with him. I just hope some folks don't expect him to do anything other than INTERPRET the Constitution.

Like yourself, I lost a good friend on 9/11. He burned to death in the basement of the Pentagon.

I agree with your assessment that "Then saw the relentless drumbeat of folks tearing him down, undermining us, before, during and after our War effort. " It has been unlike anything i have seen, even during the reign of His Slickness.

Bush has been ignoring his base, however. Rove has not served him well in that regard. W oughta pay attention to the old line "you gotta dance with the one that brung you."

There's an obnoxious, annoying talk show host on 77 WABC-Mark Simone-who interviewed Wolf Blitzer from Dubai this weekend.

Simone claimed that-if only the American people knew-they would want Dubai to not only run our ports, but to run our country.

What a dope.

I think people need to stop drinking OJ-leave that for our rich, Gulf Arab "friends"-and start dealing with reality.

Put down the pom poms and accept the fact that not every initiative of this administration is ra-ra to be applauded yippee.

George is a great guy, it's just his politics. Hey, even Bill Clinton would be a great guy to take out on a night at the strip clubs with the guys. I bet you wouldn't need to play the radio in the car travelling between clubs. However, he had no business being President.

What makes me mad at George is playing patsy with the Muslims, the open southern border, poor port security regardless of who is running the terminals, winning "hearts and minds" while losing the war, and runaway domestic spending.

Really?

I didn't know I was the one who scrounged through thousands of comments-some of them probably predating Usenet, if not the Neolithic Age-in order to come up with one that kinda, sorta, implied that a person I disliked was maybe, perhaps, contradicting himself, not really though.

And look, I've proved that I'm able to cherry-pick and selectively quote a statement that indicts the person I'm accusing of something or other, even though it doesn't actually prove much of anything.

HUZZA!

Let me tell you something, EV, because I know that you are a good man, and a truly passionate conservative (I wouldn't trust sauropod's credentials as far as I could throw him).

ROFLMBO!

btw, if you think sauropod is a conservative, why don't you tell him to behave like one........starting with not picking fights in ignorance and childish petulance.

A cursory review of your posts on this thread puts the lie to your words.

I'm calling you that because, as i have already stated, you have a propensity to call anybody that Does Not Think Like You Do an "Ugly Conservative."

Truth hurts, doesn't it?

Maybe you might actually try to build a coalition with conservative Republicans rather than insult them.

You're forgetting the tax rate reductions and lower court judicial appointments, among other things.

There are NO perfect politicians. In the past I voted for Forbes, Kemp, and DuPont in primary elections knowing full well none of them had a chance. That doesn't stop me from supporting the eventual nominee in the general election and after if they are elected.

Be realistic. We all know that it's going to be either a Republican or Democrat in the White House. I'll take the Republican every time, even if it's Nixon or Ford. If the choice is half of what I think is good versus none, I'll take the 50% over 0% anytime.

We ARE conservatives; we're just not the kind that suits you.

Tough.

It was a remark made right here on FR long before you "appeared" here.

I saved it because it comes in very handy to describe posters just like you, who think that anybody who does march lockstep with you isn't a "real, true" conservative.

It also goes to prove that you and your ilk are from a long line of malcontents and unappeasables trying to disrupt the Republican Party and this web site.

And it proves you're not the least bit original.
