BDS [Bush Derangement Syndrome] On the Right (Paleocons, and the like)
To The Point ^ | March 9, 2005 | Dr. Jack Wheeler

Posted on 03/11/2006 4:08:48 PM PST by quidnunc

Ever since George W. Bush won the presidency by preventing Al Gore's hanging-chad attempt to steal it, liberal Democrats have become progressively infected with BDS — Bush Derangement Syndrome.

Here's how I think that the contagion of BDS is now infecting a number of conservative Republicans.

If you're a guy, perhaps you have endured this unpleasant and bewildering experience. You're in a relationship and you and the lady have had some disagreements but nothing major. From your perspective things are pretty ok. Then one day you and she disagree on some minor trivial issue — and suddenly, inexplicably, it escalates as she unloads on you.

It seems like the love of your life has had a personality transplant, you're facing a virago disgorging a torrent of anger, and all you can think is, "Where did this come from?"

If you're a guy, you're nodding your head in understanding. If you're a gal, you're muttering, "Men are so clueless. We give them all these hints for so long that things are bugging us, they never get the message, then when we finally can't take it any more and snap, they're mystified."

I think you get the analogy.

A relationship that suffers this trauma can survive only if both parties calm down afterwards, focus on their mutual interests and commitment, and work together to solve their grievances.

-snip-

But it's another thing entirely when Duncan Hunter (R-CA), chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, goes around the bend and offers a bill to make all foreign ownership or leasing of any cargo terminal in any US port illegal. Duncan, my buddy whom I've gone quail hunting with, how could he get so nuts?

There are some 3,200 terminals in US ports. 80% of them are foreign owned or leased. Unions and government regulations have made it impossible for US shipping companies to stay in business, making them bit players in the international shipping business. (See this story in the New York Times, US Companies Weighed Anchor on Ports Long Ago.)

Duncan's bill would cause astronomical damage to the US economy, but he doesn't care because he's on a BDS rant.

ALITO, who will advance the cause of Constitutionality for years to come.

Credit the critics of Bush's first choice for Alito.

When he said opponents of his nominee were racist. I was one, therefore he called me a racist.

My thanks go out to all the true conservatives that held the president's feet to the coals on this one! He should have stood by his word to us and nominated the likes of Alito and NEVER come up with his Miers insanity.

Add that to the fact that in the last 6 months Bush has called me sexiest and a racist and you can see why we are pissed.

Credit nobody nut the President. Miers withdrew.

Recall that on October 4, Bush declared Miers "the most qualified to serve on the Supreme Court."

Only after conservatives said, "Over my dead body!" did Bush see the light, and Miers withdrew in shame. Alito is the result.

One thing at a time, please.

I asked you about when the president supposedly called you a sexist. I'll repeat the questions.

The President actually called you RHINO369 a sexist? When did that happen?

>>>did-you-see-the-62-2-vote bump... That vote is all we need to know.

Hunter's bill should read something along the lines of: "as long as War on Terror is being waged, no port facilities can be owned, rented or managed by 1) a Muslim controlled company, 2) a company with ties to Muslim organizations, 3) companies using union employees, 4) companies using more than 5 percent non-US citizens within the U.S."

The first two categories might have terrorist sympathies, the third is a known extortionist.

When the WoT is lifted (we'll know when Homeland Security retreats from the domestic airports and stops spying on US citizens), then the port restrictions would be lifted.

If there is another 9/11 then all employees at port facilities would need to be native-born citizens -- same with airports. Risking our 401K's in another 9/11 is just not worth it. To sweeten the pot for our world trading partners, voluntarily dropping the tariffs to zero would be fine with me. Tariffs are just another lopsided governmental tax on select industries -- part of the log-rolling special interest group connection that hampers free trade, like quotas on steel.

Because we live in a nuclear age and there are crazies like Iran and N.Korea making real threats, Bush was correct in considering a pre-emptive strike strategy. That certainly doesn't mean we should assume that we should leave our ports exposed, just to feel a little liberal.

I don't recall the president saying that opponents of his nominee were sexist.

I do recall that the First Lady when asked if opponents of the Miers nominee are sexist, she replied that some may be sexist.

Why do you think the first Lady was talking about you?

You're right. Full credit.

Miers withdrew after being smeared and treated UGLY by pundits and activists supposedly on our side. For all we know, she might have made a good justice, but she withdrew before her hearing and I don't blame her one bit.

The Miers appointment is a perfect illustration of what happens when the president is surrounded by a staff out of touch with the base. Too many folks advising him without backbone.
