I wonder if we could ever get 100,000 Americans together to "march" in favor of our immigration laws.

Actually on the other thread we ended up feeling like there must have only been 35,000 or so, based on some Freepers' knowledge of how much that downtown area could really accommodate, and other Freepers eye witness accounts.

I notice that this AP article is playing up the American flags. That's because TONS of MEXICAN flags were covering the actual march, and when that got out on the news and in pictures it only pissed more people off. So this AP is some corrective propaganda, especially with the Gutierrez quote of "Get those American flags up". What a pathetic joke, Mexicans are ultra nationalists and hate us. They aren't fooling anybody.

The original thread is full of photos, you can see only Mexican flags in many places, and they're marching with a sign that says "No to HR4227" (or whatever the immigration bill currently in the House is named. Telling us what bills we can pass!!!

Jimrob needs a duplicate threads section. I would have missed the other thread if you hadn't said something.

Yes, I once posted something from Bloomberg, but just as I went to post it I got the message "Content from Bloomberg is prohibited", or something like that.

I wonder if they could have a search of very similar titles pop up as part of the posting process, and you could look over up to 20 similar matches and continue, or just drop the article at that point. Maybe they'll add something like that someday, would cut down a lot on duplicates.

Oh, I'm sure it was much less than 100K. I watched one of those ridiculous marches against the war, Bush, etc. on Link TV one day. The airhead leftist host swelled the crowd to "practically over a million" within a couple of sentences. She started out saying there was at least 250K, then said, "but I bet it's more, probably closer to 500K". In the next breath, "I bet over the course of the day we'll have a million people marching."

Not surprising. Leftist ideology put into practice is a hideous thing. They have to lie to keep people attached to it.

How many people would go to a march that they knew TV anchors would suggest was racist? Also this march, in addition to the usual leftists, was made up of illegals and their hispanic brethren so the legislation effected them much more directly.

Actually, I didn't see it. But I know what they want. Those that rob Peter to pay Paul will always enjoy Paul's support. They are too lazy to work for themselves so they resort to legitimized theft to improve their lot in life.

Check out the pictures in post #6. Nothing but La Raza La Communista invaders. If they think that's going to win any hearts and minds, they are wrong.

What's noteworthy about the distribution of the American flags is that these criminals don't have their own. They'd like the Mexican Flag, with the Hammer & Sickle replacing the Eagle (is it an eagle? whatever it is) that's currently there.

I bet they were speaking Spanish, the language of their ancestors, right? How many of them have some white blood in their background?

I just re-read the Constitution. There is no mention of "immigrants' rights."

There are no clauses in the constitution for any illegal immigrant rights ,
Its more bs , just like they say opposing illegal immigration is racist ,

America better wake up and soon ,
It will take force of arms to expell these mexican invaders and we also will need to kick mexico right in the gut ,

I never , ever agree with the rantings of stormwatch or the klan or any white supremists but there comes a time where we need a strong force to oppose these invaders and I don't see any orginization so far stepping up to confront these
invaders
Maybe they will ?

Sad to see it come to this

As CBS 2 Chief Correspondent Jay Levine reports, the protesters -- of Polish, Irish, Latino, Chinese and many other nationalities -- gathered at Union Park, at Ashland Avenue and Lake Street, and marched to the Loop. From the air, it appeared to be an endless sea of demonstrators, flooding the streets to protest the recently-passed house bill, which would make it a crime to hire or even help undocumented immigrants.

At the end of the day, organizers say it was more than half a million protesters. Police estimated the crowd at 300,000.

“I'm definitely surprised to see this many people,” said protester Cesar Garza. “I expected a small amount of crowd, but this is… wow! I'm really surprised.”

Many of the protesters were immigrants who took the day off work to attend the rally.

“This is a ridiculous bill,” said Polish immigrant Paulina Cdnok. “I don't understand how it got as far as it did, and they're trying to make this a law -- and then at this point it's a police state.”

Other immigrants said their most important goal was to be part of the United States.

“It’s important that they know that we make great contributions to this country,” Chicago resident Maricela Herrera said. “We’re not here to take any jobs or anything, we’re here to be able to give our contributions that make the United States what it is.”

Mexican immigrant Esperanza Martinez said, “We got a family to support. We got a job. We pay taxes. We want to be part of this country.”

Mexican immigrant David Martinez said, “I want to live here with my family.”

The march ended at the Federal Plaza, at Adams and Dearborn streets, where state and local leaders promised to fight for immigrant rights.

“Whether their names are Gutierrez or Lozano, Lipinski or Blagojevich; it doesn't matter,” said Gov. Rod Blagojevich. “This is a country build by immigrants.”

Mayor Richard M. Daley said: “This is a fight that includes every American. Those who are here undocumented, we're not going to make criminals out of them. That is not what America has ever stood for and will not stand for.”

U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez told the crowd that immigrants are here to stay, and pledged to work to block the bill.

The United States flag and banners from Mexico, Honduras, and many others flew over the crowd of thousands at Federal Plaza.

The only opposition to the march came from a group called the Illinois Minutemen Project. Rosanna Pulido of that organization said she believed protecting illegal aliens would violate the law.

“They are asking that our laws be totally violated to protect illegal aliens, people who break the law and come into this country,” Pulido said.

Earlier in the march, Pulido said, “I don’t care if there’s three million people out there, if they are illegal they do not have a voice in America.”

The protest was a nightmare for motorists in and around the loop, but police were ready, and there were no arrests or problems.

“We had total cooperation from the organizers and volunteers,” said Chicago Police Deputy Supt. Charles Williams, “and that’s what made for a good orderly march.”

The new immigration bill is not a done deal. The U.S. Senate appears likely to pass much more moderate legislation, without the criminal sanctions and with a path to citizenship for those here illegally.

Still, the house version has struck a nerve in multi-cultural Chicago. Many think that could trigger other protests as the legislation is debated in Washington, D.C.

"of Polish, Irish, Latino, Chinese and many other nationalities"

This is total BS, EVERY photo I have been able to find on the web shows a SEA of HISPANIC MESTIZO faces waving Mexican flags!

When the country is embroiled in Civil WAR II, I hope the CBS journalist-traitors are the first to get shocked and awed.

This demonstration is an excellent argument for starting deportation now and punishing anyone who aids illegal aliens (all of whom are criminals, showing their contempt for our laws when it benefits them). Since when does this country belong to foreigner nationals and illegal aliens at that?

That was harsh, I'm sorry.

I'm just frustrated with the increasing number of Freepers who seemingly lurk just to point out dupes.

This was not one and it seemed as though you jumped to that conclusion.
