Thats why McCain essentially pulled out of the straw poll and told people to vote for Bush instead. He kows he would have gotten killed and that would hurt his chance to be the nominee. At least thats something Matthews got right. Last night he and the rest of the media was buying the idea that McCain was really trying 'to support the President'. Its a slick move, but I still think it'll be obvious how poorly McCain would have done.

I thought he was still going to make it (be the nominee), but this is a bad sign. I think he did the right thing by essentially pulling out though, because I doubt he would have recieved many votes and it could have started people (the news media) questioning his campaign.

Exactly right. I was just getting ready to say the same thing when I saw your post. Bears repeating.

I thought Chris and Howard dance around that point because they can't quite accept the fact that McCain is not beloved by the Republican rank and file.
