Deputies arrested a Los Indios man in the knifepoint robbery of a transmigrante who was parked and sleeping along U.S. Highway 281 early Thursday morning.
Cameron County sheriffs deputies arrested Rene Castañeda Barrera, 29, on an aggravated robbery charge early Thursday morning, according to jail records.
Sheriff Omar Lucio said Barrera used a knife to rob a man who was spending the night in the parking lot of the Vida Nueva Transmigrante at 1018 W. U.S. Highway 281 in Los Indios.
The transmigrante told deputies that Barrera and possibly another man pulled up next to him in a blue 1982 Chevrolet truck at 2:19 a.m. Thursday and demanded money.
The transmigrante told Barrera that he needed to go to the business office but shouted for help, prompting Barrera to flee.
Deputies found Barrera in the truck down the road and arrested him on aggravated robbery charges.
Lucio said deputies recovered the knife used in the alleged robbery.
Barrera is expected to be arraigned this morning.
