Not ours. We put our Bush/Cheney signs and red white and blue very large stars in our front window and no one said a thing about that. That is INSIDE YOUR OWN PERSONAL PROPERTY.

There's got to be more to this story, or somebody is exaggerating.
That's pretty out there.
Why not put out a sign that says "For Rent by a person who" and then paste in the sign that says "Support Our Troops" with an "S" painted into the location. Just because she advertises the house is for rent doesn't mean she has to rent it.
Unfortunate but those who seek ownership in a neighborhood with a homeowner's association seek it because there are asthetic restrictions that make the neighborhood look nice.
It doesn't matter what the sign is.
HOAs are the definition of local governance. There are advantages in asthetic guidelines for a neighborhood, and some people choose to live under them. If you want signs in the yard, you have to live where there is no neighborhood restriction against them... or unkept lawns and junk cars in the yard or hogs in the back yard.
Both husband and wife knew the rules before they bought/made and placed the sign. How would they feel about a Code Pink neighbor putting out a sign that said, "We support the troops when they kill their leaders."?
Damn it, its just so un-American! Personally, I like knowing my neighbor won't be parking a boat, RV, '82 Chevy up on blocks, or any other piece of junk that won't de-value my property.
Ours, they strictly prohibit anything deemed "unsightly" be visible from outside.

Yeah, really...that sounds like BS...
Absolutely not. This is a free country where people can still express their views.
BTW, These huge corporations who subdivide should lose ALL rights to the property once the deed is transferred.
This is NOT the way America used to be, nor was it what our Founding Fathers intended it to be. HOA's are fascistic if promulgated by corporations just intent on maximizing profits at the expense of liberty and freedom. That's the sort of corporate behavior one would expect in Il Duce's Italy.
You're so defenseive over this, dawg. You wouldn't be on a board or the chairman of one of these lil' Gaus, now would you?
Local governance, huh?
Chartered by WHOM? Voted on by WHOM?
And IF they are in fact duly constitutied governments, doesn't the First Amendment disallow abridgement of free speech?
I know I would refuse to sign such an agreement, and I wouldn't wish to live in such a Stepford-Collectivist community.
I love freedom and liberty too much to voluntarily give one iota of it up.
Unfortunately, most of these groups, like condo and co-op boards, attract the "Little Hitler" personality types.
HL Mencken said it best, "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
HOA are merely contracts between participants, entered into willingly when you buy the property. The board and all leadership is elected from the members of the neighborhood. If you don't like it, don't buy property there. If you're a member and don't like the rules, run for the board.
Payback can be fun.
Those boards can change the rules at any time.
They're un-American, and anyone who believes in them is a statist. They should never be allowed to exist in the first place for anyone to voluntarily join.
Heh... Is this the only part of contract law you'd like to eliminate, or should free people be limited from any other kind of voluntary agreements?
When contracts are encroachments on fundamental liberties, absolutely.
BTW, Professor Corbin was an anti-freedom moron, too.
Not only do you sound like a statist, you also sound like an authoritarian, as well.
