"Then, something terrible happened and the Dark Ages began..."

For many years, humans forgot their glorious past and huddled in a state of ignorance and fear. Scientists have uncovered evidence from around the world that the early Dark Ages may have been triggered by an actual event that occurred around 535 A.D. Science writer David Keys believes that the cause was a natural phenomenon of cataclysmic proportions. Determined to discover the exact nature of this natural catastrophe, and to understand its political, economic and social repercussions, he embarks on a scientific odyssey that ranges from Greenland to the Antarctica; from the Americas to the Far East. At the center of a stunningly complex chain of events seems to be "a loud bang" — according to Keys a volcanic explosion equal to "two thousand million Hiroshima size bombs { 2 Billion - 2,000,000,000 }." The subsequent environmental calamity, he believes, affected human civilization from Mongolia to Constantinople, precipitating plague, famine, death, great migration, the fall of the great Mexican city of Teotihuacan, the Anglo-Saxon victory over the Celts, and may even have played a role in the rise of Islam.

No wonder the mohammadans believe in the power of allah, they swarm in after a disaster and devour the remains of the afflicted culture. It's not the first time. That's exactly what they did in Egypt at the time of the Exodus.

Fascinating. The simian creature in charge of Iran was recently attributed with the belief that after a nuclear attack on Israel there would be no harmful fall-out effects to muslims...and now I understand where that idea came from. When Egypt was all but destroyed by the calamity that overtook it, the arabs, fleeing the Peninsula, after crossing paths with the fleeing 'slaves' and egyptians, discovered a weakened civilization laid out before them for the taking.

And now they await signs of planetary alignments - praying allah will destroy another civilization for them...with their help, this time.

The folks in Mecca didn't exactly swarm out into a devastated civilization immediately after the start of the Dark Ages. In fact, less of the Eastern Roman Empire had been affected than the Western ROman Empire (the successor state headquartered in Ravina).

The first serious Moslem battle occurred in 634 AD. It is referred to as "The Battle of Ajnadain".

That's nearly a century AFTER the beginning of the Dark Ages.

It also wasn't exactly a case of swooping either. Although the Moslem Arab army fought some battles against Byzantine armies, once the Byzantine military people were brought to understand that their Arab enemies PAID SALARIES ON TIME, the Arabs actually acquired Byzantine armies to use in their further conquests.

BTW, that's all common knowledge although your typical Arabist is usually not going to tell you that since the Moslems prefer to not know the truth.

I wish some people who live in BIG houses in DC would read this. ;o) It's a waste of time to try to bring freedom to them. They don't want it, and we aren't ever going to win their hearts and minds.

Thanks for this post, very interesting. (Your posts are always well worth reading!) It looks as if time's running out for Iran. The next few weeks...we should be quietly moving assets, whichever, whatever to annihilate their nukes.

You're probably right, but as a Christian, GW had to offer them the chance at democracy. It was a long shot and it's either going to be a long war or a very short one. Iran will tell the tale.

Considering that a women who has been raped needs three male witnesses to back up her claim before it will be treated seriously, does female copo in Iran need three male cops as witnesses before any arrest of a male is considered valid? Or are they only allowed to arrest women and infidels?
