The geography courses of today are called Mental Mapping. As I've heard it described severals times lately, it is to find out the concept of what students "perceive" a place (city, state or country) to be like, look like, feel like, etc. Then to find out from them where they would like to live and how they perceive it.

Sounds like complete BS to me. I enjoyed geography quite a bit. However, it was REAL geography not this "perceive" BS.

I agree. I don't need any more perception of war-torn Zimbabwe, drought-ridden Sudan, or rain-drenched jungles of Bangledesh, to know that I wouldn't want to live there.

but with the exception of gang wars in soem African countries, what's any of that got to do with politics?
