Aldrich Ames, a CIA official who spied for the Soviets for nine years was arrested in February, 1994. In his mind, what he did in undermining American security, was not treason.... Why did Ames turn on his own country? Simple. It was for the money.... Compared with the money which has already surfaced in the Clinton scandals, Aldrich Ames was a bit player. Millions flowed into the Clinton re-election coffers in a few months time. What did Clinton give in return? With the stroke of a pen, as President, he halted the opening of an environment friendly low-sulfur coal mine in Utah, worth billions of dollars, effectively eliminating any competition for Lippo's near world-wide monopoly of low-sulfur coal which is in great demand by utility companies worldwide. And, best of all, he could claim he was HELPING the environment! The fact that his sudden action cost to the State of Utah's educational system alone over a period of 40 years $62 billion, and halted a nearly $1 trillion operation that would provide thousands ofjobs in America was, apparently, a small price to pay for needed campaign funds supplied by the Indonesian Lippo group. Now, we are hearing, opening up markets for AK 47 rifles and other Chinese weapons could well have been the price for contributions from the Chinese, through the Wang Jun, Charles Yah Lin Trie connection. The Chinese Maoists in the Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement who are still holding hostages in the Japanese Embassy in Peru have new, sophisticated Chinese arms. Is there a connection with Wang Jun? Just how DID the Tupac Amaru, which, the Peruvian authorities thought, had been crushed, rise so quickly and how did they get sophisticated Chinese weaponry? The comparison with Aldrich Ames is a sobering thought. But, then, in a nation where character no longer matters and the moral level of our elected officials is of no apparent concern to the voters, when everything is relative and there are no moral absolutes left, does it matter? The Telegraph in effect has said out loud what many American journalists must be thinking: If the Washington Post allegations turn out to be true, a sitting President of the United States of America may have committed treason. Increasingly, it appears, America's security and trade interests were sacrificed for financial contributions to his re-election.
