Sig Alert/Bulletin BART : NO TRANSBAY SERVICE AND THE EMBARCADERO STATION HAS BEEN EVACUATED BECAUSE OF A FIRE THAT WAS BURNING ON UNDER A TRAIN OUTSIDE THE STATION. BART SAYS THE FIRE IS OUT BUT SMOKE IS STILL BILLOWING AT MARKET AND FRONT, MARKET IS CLOSED.
I ride BART several times a week. Every once in a while a train will come by with a smell like burning brakes. Could be a source of this fire.
As a former Bay Area resident, I can say that on occasion, a BART car's brakes would fail in the 'stuck on' mode. That would always generate a lot of smoke and a shutdown of whatever segment the train was on. That was back in the 80's though. Don't know if they ever implemented an improved brake design. Some of those BART train cars are getting on in age.
Burning wires probably.
sounds like a long walk home
