Have the boomers prospered as much as they could have, or did they miss key opportunities to better their nation and their lives?

I'm 59.......... a boomer......... we suck............ look what we have allowed our government to become on our watch ............ a bunch of compromised, spineless, self-serving politicians who passed CFR without a blink, blew off the ports deal with little reason, spent our *sses off, overspend for lousy/socialist schools, won't clean up the income tax, won't deal with the social security problem, and won't put a number of traitors (Sandy Berger, etc.) among us in jail.

We suck.

I won't take responsibility for that. I vote regularly and learn the most I can about the candidates, most are liars. I had no control over the S & L scandal for example and I just saw one of the Keating 5 on Fox this week touting his expertise. What expertise? He is a crook just like the rest--they cover for each other and I don't care how honest the start out--they end up doing what is best for their personal wealth.

I am 62 and my husband is 60. I agree with you. Although I will say we got involved for some years trying to stop the socialist/criminal government and politicians, but as Claire Wolfe says, "It's too late to work within the system and too early to shoot the b*&^%*ds."

Yep, to most of what you wrote.
SOME of us, however, never burned anything but the lights while working late.
SOME of us never protested the war as maybe we should have, being patriots and all.
SOME of us actually bought into the nuclear family, work ethic and moral value thing.
SOME of us voted Republican.
SOME of actually listened when H. Ross Perot said that the sounds we would be hearing would be a great sucking sound as companies left American shores.
SOME of us learned a great deal from Viet Nam, and while we may or may not support our leaders and their policies, will NEVER treat a member of the armed forces with anything but respect and honor. "we suck............" Well, I suppose some of us Boomers do, but SOME of us have retained the values taught to us by our forefathers
