"In the 1960s and '70s they burned their bras and draft cards, marched on Washington, founded Earth Day and vowed never to trust anyone over the age of 30."

Bullshit. A loud and overbearing 10% or less did this crap, and was lovingly overcovered by the media that made its own lefty transition at that time.

So, what was the other 90% doing then???

Steinhorn points out how this generation embraced multiculturalism and diversity like never before, making discrimination in the workplace against women and minorities illegal. Boomers listened to the disparate voices of Betty Friedan, Gloria Steinem, Lenny Bruce and Bob Dylan. And environmental causes gained steam under the boomers' stewardship; suddenly, being "green" was hip.

Not ALL this generation did any of these things. It is the Gloria Steinem's and ilk like yer that want the new generations to believe it. I live in the mid-west and didn't know of drugs until the early 70's. I did not know anyone using them. And I was not isolated. This is a misnomer that is constantly perpetuated by the west coast, the Susie Orman's, etc. and east coast large liberal cities where I presume these things originated.

Exactly.

But these "youngsters" on FR sure do love to bash the Boomers, don't they?

You could be correct in citing your 10% figure, but I must point out to you that it's the very *same* 10% that's been in effective control of the democRAT Party, and many other sources of corruption and decay in this country, for the last 20 years.

I get so sick of this whiny "the baby boomers are responsible for all the evils in the world" crapola.

You are right on Vietnam Survivor! As always, the bad few make the news and are covered extensively.

BTW, thank you for your service to our country.

I was in college 1969-1973 and I didn't do any of that BS either. I even registered in 1972 as a REPUBLICAN. I never liked smelly hippies.

Load of crap journalism. A few thousand burned draft cards and bras, while 3 million went to Vietnam.

I hate media stereotypes, especially this one.

The percent of the Boomer generation (the radicals) who did that crap was higher than the percent of radicals in other generations. Of course there were non radicals like you among the Boomers. But overall, the Boomers are the most radical generation ever.

TRUE...TRUE....TRUE.....

I lived thru those days....the most common social settings were of young people NOT heavily involved in any of that junk.....

we just drank....LOL......

seriously......most teenagers had nothing to do with the Bums of that day.....most were working or getting drafted or avoiding the draft or trying to get thru college....

10% or less did this crap

The other 90% is arguably guilty of letting them get away with it. I tend to blame "The Greatest Generation", including Nixon, for not kicking our asses and shooting enough hippies to stop the slide toward socialism. Of course, I may be a little extreme.

That is exactly right! I am sick and tired of hearing this nonsense. At least the other half served in Vietnam, raised families, voted Nixon, worked, etc.. They continued to build America while the other loud but low percentage dominated the media.
