Rush just now: "Dubai Port World just gave us the middle finger" Senator Warner, on the floor of the Senate, just announced that Dubai has agreed to American ownership of US Ports. The issue just disappeared.

I don't blame them. They've been a good friend in the War on Terror, and now they're being called the Enemy. It is horse CRAP.
Enjoy the new enemy you've created, Congress. All of you ought to be ashamed.

For what it is worth, I just got off the phone with Dr. Tom Coburn's office and they say that he is wanting to wait for the 45 day review (even though it may not happen)before making up his mind but at this point is highly skeptical. And believe me when I say that Dr. Coburn has no financial stake in this in any way, shape, or form. I only say this because I suspect many people in government from D. to R.'s stand to make money off this deal. Dr. Coburn will do what is right for America first.

You said -- "Boeing should be glad to be rid of them because, no doubt, down the line they'd sue Boeing for some glitch in the manufacturing of the airliners and want all their money back."
Believe me, Boeing is not going to be happy to be rid of them. They're going to be fighting hard to keep the deal by lobbying for the port deal, too. That just put Boeing and all its employees on the side of the port deal.

I guess one of these days we'll be out of jobs and industries to outsource. Then at least, threads like these won't be an issue.

Time for us to reciprocate with other "ALLIES" in the region. Two can play that game.

Many people on FR consider the entire Middle East, regardless of who they are or even what religion they practice, to be our enemy.
The "nuke em all" crowd proves this.

Now there's the UAE we all knew existed under that sweet, innocent, Jew-hating exterior.
Reminds me of a story...
The Scorpion and the Frog
A scorpion and a frog meet on the bank of a stream and the scorpion asks the frog to carry him across on its back. The frog asks, "How do I know you won't sting me?" The scorpion says, "Because if I do, I will die too."
The frog is satisfied, and they set out, but in midstream, the scorpion stings the frog. The frog feels the onset of paralysis and starts to sink, knowing they both will drown, but has just enough time to gasp "Why?"
Replies the scorpion: "Its my nature..."

Well at least they mean what they say. Now do we stand up and so "go ahead" or go crying and begging forgiveness.

Blackmail my a$$, it's call reciprosity and we deserve it.Pretty soon you guys will be saying we deserve to get bombed for trying to protect our interests.
To: Peach
A sad situation.
We are now the laughing stock of the world.
Payback however will be satisfying...:-)
But our efforts now in the Middle East have been severely hampered and this has only begun to play out.
We have insulted our best strategic ally in the area and it will be very costly....
To: prairiebreeze
Just heard on El Rushbo that UAE has responded by telling US that it will divest itself of ALL US interests.El Rushbo quite correctly characterized this as;"Dubai Has Just Given Us The Middle Finger"!!
To: Beagle8U
Put it this way, then: What if the UAE did, in fact, have control of security operations at these ports? How much would you trust the UAE in that case?
To: JamesP81
Because the port deal was cancelled, we'll all be out of jobs? What?
