The rovers can't really discern microbial life on Mars, if they did find something, it must be a significant fossilized remains of something.

One of the most ridiculous aspects of the AFI "Top 100 Movie Quotes" from a year or so ago is that the quote from Aliens wasn't "Game over, man, GAME OVER!" but "Get away from her, you BITCH!"
The quote that has lived on forever from that movie is the Game Over one.

I will certainly be listening for the annoucement but I really expect it will be something like "We are very excited to have found all the elements and environmental conditions necessary for life to have evolved in ________. There is no reason to not believe that further study will reveal virus- or prion-like life forms." I hope that I am wrong but you may be right about stoking the coffers. We shall see.
