Read your history. Taiwan was only breifly part of mainland china and even then it was largely ignored. The ROC inhabits the island because they were driven off the mainland by the real rebels, the chicoms.
No, it's you who need to read or reread your history. Do you know who Koxinga is? He was a Ming dynasty loyalist who took over Taiwan from the Dutch (in a 9 month war) and used the island as a counter to the Qing dynasty. His Ming-in-Exile state was ultimately defeated and his territory was then incorporated into the Qing. Taiwan has been part of Qing China from 1660s to 1898, and then from 1945 to the present as ROC. The Japanese surrendered the island of Taiwan to the Republic of China after WWII.
98% of Taiwanese are from the Mainland within the last 400 years. So called "native Taiwanese" speak the same dialect as people in southern Fujian province directly across, and came to Taiwan during the Qing Dynasty, which had control of Taiwan since the 1660s until 1898. Unless the Taiwanese unanimously call independence themselves, you really don't have much right calling independence on their behalf. And I am speaking this as a Taiwanese.

even then it was largely ignored.
That doesn't quite explain how by 1890s, the original Taiwanese (Austronesian) aborigines were either dead or the few tribes who survived chased into the mountains and nearly everyone in Taiwan then spoke a Fujian dialect. Just to remind you, Fujian is the province across Taiwan. Let's be real, even if Taiwan wants to declare independence, it's not going to use the aboriginal claim.

Look who has returned to post more "ChiCom history lessons" ;)
Seriously, the ChiComs don't answer a single question honestly and divert each issue with made-up history. The fraudulent claims about Tibet on this thread are excellent examples of ChiCom political "education."
Of course, as I pointed out earlier, the Taiwanese claim/professed support of the KMT is usually a standard talking point used by all ChiComs to build credibility. They know, as well as we do, that anything they say as ChiCom apologists will be laughed off by most rational people who are even slightly familiar with the disgusting ChiCom record.
