China hits back at US criticism [Barf Alert]
BBC ^ | Thursday, 9 March 2006 | BBC

China has hit back at US criticism of its human rights record by releasing its own document of alleged US abuses.

Washington said in its annual rights report that China was one of the world's "most systematic" offenders.

In return Beijing urged the US to "look squarely" at its own problems, such as a high murder rate and jail population.

While China often rejects US criticism of its rights record, this exchange is especially sensitive due to President Hu Jintao's visit to the US next month.

The report issued by China's cabinet, the State Council, on Thursday listed "a multitude of cases to show the serious violations of human rights both in and outside the US," according to state news agency Xinhua.

"As in previous years, the US State Department pointed the finger at human rights situations in more than 190 countries and regions, but kept silent on the violations of human rights in the United States," the report said.

It described alleged abuses including secret surveillance, police abuse, racial discrimination and wrongful convictions.

"The United States has always boasted itself as the model of democracy, and hawked its mode of democracy to the rest of the world, but in fact, American 'democracy' is always one for the wealthy and a 'game for the rich'," it added.

Increased censorship

In its own report, issued on Wednesday, Washington was equally scathing about Beijing's human rights record, saying it "remained poor".

Seriously, the cold war was ramped up a couple notches with the President's visit to India and the nuke deal. It put the hurt on the chicoms plans in pakistan. I think we'll see alot more angry words exchanged between our govt. and the chicoms.

Agreed

The Chicoms are defiitely increasing their support to the Pakis and Iran. Musharaff stated recently that Pakistan will go in for "nuclear power plant" tie-ups with China and I have been reading reports about increased Chicom support to Iran (missile technology).

Funny to see this criticism coming from a country that has NO democracy, conducts forced abortions, kills its own citizens, occupies Tibet and Inner Mongolia, and....(think I'll stop here).

And doesn't hesitate to make a number of threatening moves and strategic positioning in our own hemisphere...not to mention these:

Thanks for that very useful link....the "String of Pearls" strategy in action again. I sincerely hope this deal falls through.

The Indians (along with American support) are making overtures to Myanmar as well and are working on infrastructure projects in that country. The ChiComs use infrastructure projects to buy influence and frieds - got to beat them at their own game.

I am shocked that the Thais are allowing the communists a foothold in their country though. Haven't they learned a lesson from the Nepalese?

Tibet was inherited? HUH say what?? You are implying that Chinese history is full of peace and love for their neighbors. Is that the party line in China these days?

No, it's not party line. Tibet is claimed by the Republic of China (Taiwan) too. In the last 300 years, Tibet became independent between mid-1910s and 1950s (about 40 years of independence, during which time other parts of China were in civil war and also occupied by Japan). I didn't say there was peace and love, merely that it has always been both the Republic of China and the PRC's position that they have inherited the old Qing Dynasty in terms of territory. Whether that is a legitimate claim or not, one can provide precedent and world examples for both cases.

I want to clarify that I believe the Dalai Lama should be allowed to return to his homeland in Tibet. However the claim over Tibet is not because of some 7th century marriage between Chinese and Tibetan aristocracy, but rather through this concept of "inheriting" from the 300 years long Qing Dynasty, which immediately preceded the ROC and PRC (in the same way that modern Russia inherited Tsarist Russia).

Oh oh, the thought police have sniffed you out. Better start parroting the "correct" paranoia. But, you must admit, it's entertaining.

In other words you mean to say what ever the mainland China occupies (past or present) it simply "inherits" or claims as "inheritance"?

Fact is China has no claim over Tibet, Inner Mongolia, Uighuristan or Aksai Chin and must vacate all of these areas.

I am sure there are some Chicom forums out there behind the iron curtains where you wont be harassed by the "thought police " and where you would be totally free to parrot your party line. No?

Fact is China has no claim over Tibet, Inner Mongolia, Uighuristan or Aksai Chin and must vacate all of these areas.

Let's be real here. 90% of Inner Mongolians are Han Chinese and speak Mandarin Chinese. They have been there a long time, longer than most Americans in America. The territory that is now called Inner Mongolia was originally the central domain of the Liao, Jin and Wei Dynasties anyway. These dynasties are considered Chinese even though they were nomadic. Inner Mongolia is not Mongolia (Outer Mongolia), that's why it's called "Inner", this name was coined by the Manchurians hundreds of years ago, not by the Communists.

Inner Mongolia and Sinkiang ("Uighuristan"? give me a break!) have as much right to independence as Shanghai, Beijing, Taiwan or Sichuan. We all have a right to independence, but you have to be able to back it up with blood, like the American Revolution. Richard Gere and liberal New Agers isn't enough.

DO NOT FEED THE CHICOM TROLL!!

Anybody who claims that
a.) China has no interest outside SE Asia,
b.) China "inherited" Tibet Uighirstan, and Inner Mongolia,
c.) Tries to divert each China-related thread with ridiculous assertions and thread diversions,
d.) Thinks more of animal rights abuses (as opposed to human rights) (check the posting history)

doesn't deserve an answer and should not be taken seriously.

Notice that the ChiComs haven't mentioned a word on the subject matter of the thread though (these ridiculous Chinese assertions re: human rights in the USA).

Before you do, you may want to read this statement first: "Inner Mongolia and Sinkiang ("Uighuristan"? give me a break!) have as much right to independence as Shanghai, Beijing, Taiwan or Sichuan."
