2008 presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton has introduced new Hillarycare legislation in Congress, saying the measure will bring the nation "one step closer to the goal of expanding access to quality, affordable healthcare to all Americans.
In a statement posted to her official Senate web site on Tuesday, Mrs. Clinton said her "Small Employer Health Benefits Program Act" will allow small businesses to deliver healthcare coverage the same way the federal government does under the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program.
Under the bill, she explained, employers would be able to negotiate for lower costs and employees would have access to a wider array of affordable choices.
"Small businesses are the engine of our economy, employing more than half of all private sector employees," Mrs. Clinton noted. "However, these employers too often cant afford to provide healthcare for their employees."
The praise for small businesses stood in stark contrast to the then-first lady's comments in 1994, when employers complained that the mandates in her original Hillarycare plan would bankrupt them.
Mrs. Clinton's response at the time: "I can't be responsible for every undercapitalized business."

Anyone who thinks socialized medicine is such a great idea, should be made to spend some time in a country that has it.
Or just talk to the Canadians coming over here for their health care.

Before I make any derogatory comments about Hillary, I would like to see what the bill comprises. As a small business owner I am interested in what she is offering.

Well, something has got to be done and I think plans like this are going to get much more attention than they did in the early 90's.

Still pushing socialized health care. Of course, she has no intention of being subject to the mediocre result herself--it's just for all of us peasants.

any time the government sticks its finger in the health care system, your health care costs rise, there is no logical counter argument.

I know a lot of Canadians who come to the US for all of their healthcare other than normal check-ups. Thousands of Canadians die every year waiting for procedures that are routine in the United States.

I believe Mitt Romney of Mass came up with a plan that allows for a variety of health care plan options, private pay with subidies for low income folks.
Everyone will be required to have insurance.
Will have to research this more, I just skimmed it the first time.

You as a small business owner, are not required to offer any benefits to employees. You do not even have to with hold taxes from the paychecks.
Healthcare is up to the individual. Optima, Healthkeepers, Bluecross/blue shield, Trigon... All available to people at afordable prices.
It isn't a function of the government to force healthcare. It's a choice of an individual.

"Well, something has got to be done..."
A doctor whose patient has a brain tumor might say the same thing, but I doubt he'd suggest using a chain saw to cure the problem.
And I disagree, albeit somewhat meekly that HillarysCare will "get much more attention" than it has in the past. I get the sense society as a whole is slowly inching away from the "gimme" mentality. But perhaps I'm delusional.
