"...a robber pulled a machete on a convenience-store cashier, who put up no fight..."

Nah...should read:

"...a robber pulled a machete on a convenience-store cashier, who put two in the robber's chest and one in his mellon."

I much prefer a happy ending!

An armed citizen with a .357 or a 9mm can out-intimidate a machete carrying thug anyday.

Frankly, in my case there would be no intimidation whatsoever. None.

If somebody has the poor judgment to show me a machete in a threatening way, a serious case of lead poisoning is the most likely result, developing suddenly and with no warning.

Sure will. As far as submachine guns go, the Sten was one of the easiest to produce. I think they were just stamped out and were a bare bones firearm. You could field a ton in short order but they weren't rated high on the quality scale. Sometimes quantity is more important than quality, I guess.

We need a National Machete Control Act:

(a) registration and a $100 Machete Transfer Tax per transfer (except for law enforcement);
(b) require proper storage of the machete;
(c) cannot be sold without a childproof 'blade-lock';
(d) require a biometric capacitor discharge mechanism to prevent unauthorized use for all machetes sold after 2010;
(e)ban the sale of 'Saturday Night Special' machetes costing less than $20.00;
(f)no machete to be sold with a blade less than 15";
(g)ban the private ownership of 'assault machetes' with a pistol grip or built-in whetstone allowing rapid-fire re-sharpening.

I don't think that the NMA will go for that.

Is Machete Crime to be a new category to get all excited about and make laws for? Hammers have been used in a number of robberies and murders of late. Shall we have activist groups to fight Hammer Crime? And baseball bats- shall they be demonized for their use in murder and mayhem? Will defenders of Constitutional Rights have to point out how many times baseball bats are used for defense?

What does the machete-control lobby have to say about this?

I'm sure we could send the article and my post to a New Jersey legislator who would try to implement it.

No one ever went broke underestimating either the intelligence or the morals of a politician.

Pretty soon they will have to outlaw steak knives because the criminals use them.Maybe they should outlaw the illegal immigrants before they take away every sharp object we own.
