As she stood in Adams County Courtroom No. 1 on Monday, Erica Rutters used a tissue to dab tears from her eyes.
The 29-year old Dover Township woman pleaded guilty to the charge of corruption of a minor and accepted her sentence of three years of probation.
Rutters quietly answered "yes" when Judge John D. Kuhn asked if she was pleading guilty because it was true that she wrote sexually graphic letters to a 16-year-old boy she taught at Oxford Christian Academy in New Oxford.
The teenager's mother, Vicki Klinedienst of Reading Township, said she found the handwritten letters in a drawer in her son's room in May. In the letters, the author writes about her feelings for the boy, saying she loves him, and graphically describes a sex act the letter says they performed and what she wanted to do with him in the future.
Klinedienst allowed her son, Jason, to be identified. She said she suspected the letters had been written by Rutters because she found a reference in one letter to a trip the author took to get her uncle a driver's license.
Jason Klinedienst had said he was with Rutters and her uncle that day, Vicki Klinedienst said. Jason Klinedienst said the letters came from Rutters, he had sex with the married woman and was a willing participant in the relationship.
The teenager said he "wouldn't want anything to happen to her (Rutters)."
Rutters was charged with corruption of a minor, but not in connection with the allegations of sexual misconduct because the boy was 16 at the time.
According to the Pennsylvania Crimes Code, if Jason Klinedienst had been under the age of 16, Rutters could have been charged with statutory sexual assault. Ruuters could have been charged with rape if the boy was under 13 years old.
The maximum sentence for the misdemeanor charge of corruption of a minor is five years in prison and $10,000 in fines. Under a plea agreement, Rutters will spend three years on probation and pay $300 in fines.
BUMP!
How things have changed...
It use to be the male teachers to look out for with the young girls...
Now its the female teachers...
Hey, wait a minute!
It's legal to have sex with him, but not write letters about it? Where are the First Amendment lawyers?
I think it gets reported less when it's a woman who has sex with an underage boy.It happened to me and a few of my friends more than once when we were growing up.One of the ladies was the mother of a kid who played on my football team when I was 11 years old.The other was a home economics teacher who taught mostly freshmen classes. Both happened in a small town and both involved the women using alcohol on us.I never mentioned what happened because I didn't realize how wrong it was when I was in my teens. These were married women who were trusted by many of the parents in town.
Feminism at its best?
