"Fresno police are taking enforcement of drunken driving laws to a new level which officers expect will bring both success and outrage. Saturday night, the traffic unit unveiled a new operation in which plainclothes police officers stake out bars and target drunk patrons. If the heavy drinkers get behind the wheel, officers in unmarked cars follow them and call in marked police cars to pull them over."

I'm not sure I follow what you're saying. Why would halting lcohol consumption be a recipe for disaster when out at a restaurant or bar? The only thing that can reduce BAC is the passage of time. Let me know if I missed a secondary meaning to your post.

Unless you have some sort of different comprehensive method, I see very few people on this thread advocating drinking and driving.
I certainly don't.
WOW police keeping drunks off the road............bastards!...lol
I'll bet you'll be saying that when they lock you up for 20 years for DUI manslaughter.......clown
If that's what you were implying by the words I quoted, then I must apologize for taking them the wrong way.
The Soviet Union had a low crime rate.
That's right, but an hour per drink is not enough. All coffee can do is make one a speeded-up drunk in the eyes of the law.
Any admission, or any alcohol consumption prior to driving; or for that matter, driving a new car, living in a new or recently-refurbished house, or recently being around paints, solvents, sealants, adhesives, fuels, lubricants, etc. can make you a candidate.
So can the Adkins diet, diabetes, smoking, ad nauseum.
In short, anyone driving who attracts the attention of law enforcement can be convicted of DUI.
I wasn't scolding you, I just want people to know what it's like out there.
I love that joke.....I was going to post it until I saw you had done the work for me.....
There are a lot of threads on FR about this very topic. On every one of them, people all but claiming that their BAC makes them better drivers, police only pick up drunk-drivers for insert tinfoil-hat theory here, yadda yadda yadda. I don't drink (ever), but I don't mind when others do. Just stay off the road.
As long as you do too, that's fine with us.
Ban the wheel. It's dangerous (for the children, of course).
Mental note. Don't argue against drinking and driving on FR again...
Go F Yourself.
We're not talking about arguments against drinking and driving here.
Just read your tagline and home page. Unless you're willing to admit that you have never been "impaired" by the antics of your progeny while driving your Volvo with them in their state-mandated child safety seats in the back seats (thanks to federally-mandated explosive devices in the front seats), you have nothing to complain about.
Double for me.
Been to the Dirty Olive lately??? I like the DO but I am not sure I want to meet friends there now that there is undercover agents hanging out in the bar.
Ray Appleton referenced a letter published in the Bee by a woman named Evelyn. She made a very profound point and the essence is that people are in fear of the Government just for doing the normal things in life like watering the lawn, having a fire in the fireplace, or driving a car.
Not under modern day jurisprudence. Asset forfeiture, mandatory minimum sentencing, wire-tapping, a greatly weakened 4th and 5th Amendments. It all works so well in the Drug War, it might be worth another try with booze.
That's not my thing, and I never said all or most are crooked. I see cops no different than politicians. I'm not at all suprised when one of them gets caught. At the same time, I don't buy the crap that a cop can't do this or that because of the law or the Bill of Rights. When they pull you over they can do any damn thing they want and it's tough as hell to show any different. That's just the way it is.
Like hell you didn't say they were all crooked. You implied that they were all crooked because none of them followed the straight and narrow law, and also implied that they all make up reasons to stop you, and they all can, and do, anything they want. Call it what you will.
