The last one that could really be called a flop was The Last Emperor back in 87.

That was another poor year, IIRC. The Last Emporer was up against Empire of the Sun (a little confusion with the names back then for me); "Hope and Glory", a slice-of-life kind of film set in WWII; Kenneth Brannagh's "Henry V", which was comparitively low-budget; and a fifth movie, which I'm forgetting. Oddly enough, I recall that only film of the five that I didn't see was "Empire of the Sun". (Yes, I remember that I saw the fifth film even if I can't actually remember what it is now.) Granted, 2 of them I saw on VHS.

The films TLE beat : Broadcast News, Fatal Attraction, Hope and Glory, Moonstruck

Empire of the Sun was better then most of those. So was Full Metal Jacket. Henry V came out in 89.
