Gosh, are you on the right track with this fine thread, Miss Billie ... thank you.

Not a half hour ago, I was listening to Johnny Cash singing Orange Blossom Special. I've been on only one train trip ... when I was 10 ... from L.A. to Clovis, NM, where Grandma and Grandpa picked us up and took us on home to the farm across the line in Texas ... I remember we loved the French toast for breakfast in the dining car ... and that soothing lull of the clackety-clack ... )

Thank *you*! Once again, I love your down-home, folksy post, jw, and so glad to see you - you're pretty scarce 'round here lately!

Thank you, Dolly. Movie Buff that you are, I knew you would have seen many train movies! I, too, thought of the movies about the Nazi's transporting the Jewish to death camps in boxcars like they were animals (as you said - especially Schindler's List) Those movies are so difficult to watch. :(

Love that Cuyahoga Valley bridge in the photo you posted!

Well, they have an American Orient Express - it's the last colored train picture I posted on the opening.(Just before the train songs) :)

I better get back to earlier pings. Later, Miss Meggsie. :)

Good afternoon, freema. Your post was bittersweet. How tragic your grandfather was killed by a train.

I am so sorry to read the sad news about your father-in-law. Prayers for you, dear freema.

Nice to meet you! I admire your sense of humor and the fact that you see good in my home state...even if for the skiing alone!

Good afternoon, Texagirl. Thank you for the nice compliment, and I'm enjoying everyone's posts of *their* train rides. :)

It is so sad that New Orleans has faced such devastation, and even more sad is the turmoil and controversy that's going on now with all the blame-games. I always enjoyed visiting there and couldn't bear to see it now.

Oh my gosh...that just "jolted" my memory. A few years ago we saw the broadway version of Andrew Lloyd Webers "Starlight Express" (which I knew nothing about except it was all done on roller skates) and was losely based on this classic story. All the roller skaters were supposed to be old and new "engines" preparing the "big race". You had your good guys, bad guys, underdogs, and even a little engine love story! Actually it was quite good! Okay, back to work! BBL!

Oh my gosh times two!!! We saw "Starlight Express" in London and it was awesome! They were skating all around the audience on these platform thingies.

I just brought Chachi home from the vet. He got a clean bill of health and it looks like his mite problem is under control. :-)

Great! Better news than I got from Grady's vet. : ( I'll freepmail you about it later.

Wonderful memories of lunch in the dining car

I remember the dining car, food was pretty good as I recall.

I was fortunate enough to get to ride on one of the old steam engine trains once or twice.

I was very young when they went to diesel. Such a shame. They could have at least kept the 'steam whistle' sound. : (

Hi, (((((Megsie)))))
